with 295 belts arguably a bit tighter than i like i diddnt get any skipping, so maybe if i opt for a bit longer belts and adjust the motors further out on the mount, i can skip on the idlers alltogetherā¦
For a 100kg rider, a given motor torque will produce a force on the rider depending on the gear ratio and wheel radius.
Weāll assume direct drive and 100mm wheels (0.05m radius) cause fuck math. Thus the force on the rider is:
F1 = (T1/0.05) Nm
Since F = m * a,
A1 = T1/(0.05*100)
= (T1/5) m/s^2
For a 200kg rider, the same torque T1 would produce only half the acceleration on the rider:
A2 = (T1/10) m/s^2
Youād need twice as much torque to make the accelerations equal, which as we can see is in fact twice the force.
This means that at the same speed (rpm), all other variables being equal, that youād need twice the wattage (power) to achieve the same acceleration.
The relationship between torque and power is linear at constant speed (rpm).
The only difference is that this equation relies on mechanical power, which isnāt quite the same as electrical power dissipated by the motor, some fraction of the latter being dissipated as heat.
But, as long as the motor efficiency can be reasonably assumed to be the same or similar at the two different power levels, the electrical power should still be proportional to the torque.
Why did anyone bring time into this equation? In fact, why bother with an equation? Imagine you are both the battery and motors pushing your 2 friends instead. You have the same potential strength and ability to push in both cases. Clearly, the light friend would win the race no matter what the distance is (well, flat ground) because you could accelerate him faster.
Newtons third law: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. You accelerate your friend more, he feels more acceleration.
@ohitstarik, your civic example is null because you are no longer the frame of reference for mass in a car.
Glad youāre trying to take it out on me and not your wife or child. Try harder next time though, your insecurities are showing and starting to embarrass me even.
