Braking is just negative acceleration after all… Perception and point of view put the context here.
I think we’re all pretty clear that in the case of braking, -100A is MORE brake force than -10A.
One could also say -100A is LESS gentle braking than -10A.
Personally, if someone asks me for stronger brakes, I will tell them to “increase” the negative value because it makes more verbal sense.
^if the girl were labeled vf2, and the man labeled vf1, her “negative” velocity of -2.5m/s would be “more” than the man’s positive velocity of +1.5m/s— in other words she would travel more meters per second than the man. whether they are labeled vf2 or vf1 is completely arbitrary. or keeping the labels the same, if the man weighed less than the woman, his negative velocity would be more than the woman’s positive velocity. in this case the + and - signs denote that these are vector quantities. welcome to newton’s 3rd law.

If I am already running 80 motor amps and plan to keep it that way, will increasing from 60A battery (limits fw) to 80A battery (no limits fw) substantially increase motor temps, or will it just increase heat at the top end speed?

more acceleration in the upper 1/4th of your speed range, and consistent torque at all possible speeds, and no loss of throttle range in the upper 1/4th as well
Do you have anything to say about increasing motor amps past their rated and tested reliable max of 80A?
If I were to increase motor amps to 100 or 120 for example, I assume that would lead to excessive heat at the low end. Also, I think I tried this before and got cogging, but my board at the time was acting strange to begin with at any amps and I may want to give this another go… im running focboxes on a heatsink.
well you’ll be assigning your max throttle to 100a or 120a motor current, but if the battery is “only” 80a, you’ll lose some throttle range in the upper 1/5 or 1/3 of your speed range respectively
I guess I’m mostly wondering about cogging, saturation (I don’t know too much about this besides I think I’ll be saturating the motor or something) … I’m fine with losing the full throttle range if I can manage to run 100-120 motor amps without cogging though, and since I can only really do 87 battery amps per ESC with my pack.

I’ve become obsessed w cogging! What it is. It’s obvious unpowered but still there overlaid on the motor torque giving torque ripple or some term. Some people don’t think cogging is worth a though but in some motor uses smoothness is crucial. No surprise. A lot of effort goes into designing motors to reduce cogging. I literally spend 3 hours a day if not more researching studies. Still trying to find exactly what cogging loss is
A magnet pull should be the same regardless if going or towards a tooth so maybe even no net loss. I don’t get what cogging is. For sure not iron losses at these lowest speeds. And could model a motor w magnets all with same polarity facing out n that should rule out most hysteresis
