I have a really weird set up that I’m trying to fit into an enclosure. I would be able to do it if I stacked my ESC on top of my BMS. Would attach it all to the enclosure by neutral cure silicone and would put a thin sheet of plastic in between the focboxes and the BMS
Don’t use plastic, vibrations will cause abrasions which will cause holes which will cause shorts and breakages. Use fishpaper from 145ptags.com or from elsewhere. It’s more vibration resistant than plastic or foam or tape.
This would have been useful to know when I was soldering mine. The connection I have right now is fine but this would have been better.

I think this Western Union splice works better for wires that are carrying current as well as physical tension. In an esk8, the wires are typically not under tension, and if they are, eliminating the tension should be priority and not pulling on the wires. While I appreciate it it, I don’t use those in esk8 at all.

I also considered these but the tread pattern is new to me.
So my board is finally operational and in the interest of not blowing my batteries up I am wondering a few things.
I have yet to connect the BMS as I want to be a bit more sure about that before incorporating it. But in the meantime is this an appropriate way to check my packs voltage and determine when I should charge the batteries (individually with a balance charger)
Also at what voltage should I be concerned/charging them.

I use it out of habit mainly, and because it gives a nice small-diameter joint that’s easier to heatshrink over than some others.
Also you don’t need to hold the wires together while soldering, because sometimes I don’t want to dig out my third hand tool.
For LiPo pouch batteries, the per-cell voltage range is roughly 4.2(full) to 3.5 or 3.7(empty) volts. So for a 10s battery, the overall pack voltage range is 42 to 35 or 37 volts.
You should check your individual cell voltages regularly (like, once every couple charge cycles at least) if you don’t have a BMS there to keep them balanced automatically. Your cells should not be more than ~0.05 volts away from the pack average. If they do drift, you will need to either manually balance them by charging the vol/discharging the high cells, or balance charge them with a hobby charger.
thanks for the response, at this stage i plan to balance them all individually with a hobby charger I do have a BMS that I’ve mostly wired but I need to do a bit more study before I am confident using it. Plus I have to splice it onto the battery cable which I’m also considering cutting all the connectors of the batteries and soldering them together but need some more confidence in the board generally operating before doing that.
So if it gets to say 35/37 volts in total I I should probably charge them? I’m not even taking it out for a proper ride yet as I don’t have the gear I want to safely do that.
9" wheels ain’t cheap. You might be able to find some deals up at the wider 4" hub standard, but they won’t fit on MTB hubs. Do yourself a favor and get the MBS’s 9" knobbies while that 25% off coupon is still active.
The road tires Venom linked seem great, but I haven’t found any good 9" mtb knobbies other than MBS.

@xsynatic I’ve been home for less then 12 hours lol. In that time I convinced a friend to build an esk8 and Ive ran through my batteries twice. Ill try to get it printed tomorrow but no promises.
what about 9" tubes? Any cheaper ones than MBS but that work with MBS 9" tires?
Is my understanding correct that these balance cables (JST connections) are for charging and the (bullet connectors) are for discharging?
So when charging Lipo with a hobby balance charger you charge with just the balance cables connected? And only need to connect the bullet connectors if you are discharging for storage etc?
Previously I connected all of the cables but considering cutting the bullet connectors off the batteries to manage the cables better within the enclosure
