What’s your beef with vesc tool, anyway?

So
Static=at all times
Charge=only while charger is plugged
I imagine static is bad for the cell lifecycles?

Not especially, but it means the BMS can drain your cells (the high ones) at any time and also be generating heat any time.

Blew up over 5 vesc’s. I can never get it right. I’ve had 3/8 successful builds with vesc’s

Jezus dude, what are you doing to them? Seriously, changing your battery voltage and battery current settings should have no chance of blowing up your vesc. Even doing motor detections and sensor setup shouldn’t do that.

Well, I went from using focboxes to vesc’s and the vesc’s can handle much less current and I had a specific motor config but it blows the capacitors on the vesc’s. I’m pretty sure that’s it

I’d love to see the settings you’ve had set when you’ve blown your VESCs, as well as the specific hardware setup. I really doubt it’s the fault of VESC tool if it’s happened on 5 separate occasions

Well, let’s just say My old motor max is 80a, I think that explains everything

Bruh my motor max is always 90 and I’ve never blown a vesc

Really, I’m doing everything wrong then lol. I also broke some other vesc’s by running a 290kv motor on them. Not all of them blew. 3 of them have

Well, no, not necessarily. What motors are they?

If you think the capacitors blew, it would be either because of initial precharge or because of back EMF. You can avoid a precharge issue by upping the capacitors that are parallel to the VESC power cables. Back EMF can be avoided by not going too fast I think, I’m not an EE

Right now I’m running a single 6355 on a 12s2p and a dual 6374 on another build. I really don’t want to deal with vesc stuff, on top of that I have parents who don’t want to see anything that has to do with batteries.

So firstly I wouldn’t pump 80A into a single motor that small. How many battery amps are you pulling per VESC from that 12s2p and what cells does it use?

On that build, I’m not sure since I got someone else to do it. Those are the settings I used to use, not anymore though

I’m not pumping 80a to a 6355, haha. That was me last year

So how many battery amps are you trying to push into the VESC and what brand has been failing you the most?

Flipsky

Battery amps? I’ve found on a FSESC4.12 you can get around 35A before you start running into issues. If it’s the 4.20 that’s a whole 'nother story

It’s the 4.2 man, I’m not looking to do anything with the vesc but I know much more of how to do it now. It’s the parents that are holding everything back

Well that complicates it a lil because of the issues Flipsky has had with that in the past, although those issues are now fixed. In the future I’d be happy to sanity check all your settings and stuff if you ever need, just chuck a PM
