Apex mountain board build. I need your help

Alright so I’m starting a new mountainboard build and need some advice. Here is a little background my current setup is below. I typically ride around 25-30 mph but like to go faster as well.

Landyatch evo deck
Bn270 truck w/adjustable hangers
Riptide bushing
Mb rockstar pro aluminum hubs
Tramps 6.5 Street treads
dual Torqueboard 6380 190kc and mounts
Eboards Peru 12s8p 40t pack
Makerx dv6pro in custom aluminum box top mount.

The new build will be

Apex predator 2023 deck (purchased)
Apex jump drives
Mbs Matrix III truck
Mbs bindings
Hubs?
9" tires?
Battery 12? 14s? 16s?
Esc makerx d100s in custom aluminum box
Motors?

  1. What are your experiences with the say mbs five-star plastic hubs vs rockstar pro xl aluminum hubs in a off-road build? I know I like my aluminum hubs much better on the street build.

  2. What are your favorite 9" tires

  3. Does anyone have any pictures of how apex mounts the pelican case to the 3 existing insert in the apex board. Wondering if they use a plate in the bottom of the box or if the plastic is strong enough to just screw it straight to the board. Also is some sort of spacer used in-between the battery and board for flexing purposes?

  4. I’m 6’4 and 210lbs I like to ride fast and hard. I don’t want to drag my board up hills because it doesn’t have the power to go up. I currently am building a 12s6p 40t pack. It is not complete so I am now trying to decide if I should keep it 12s6p or bump it up to 14s or 16s6p. I may be able to fit 14s into the pelican 1200 if I go 1600 I will need a bigger box. What are your thoughts?

  5. What are your favorite motors for mountainboarding? That will give me plenty of torque and speed to ride fast and climb any hills that traction will allow me to.

Quite a few people have fit 12s8p into a peli 1200… 16s6p technically might fit, but I suppose it depends on how much you hate yourself. It would be a difficult build.

Any bigger than a peli 1200 is too big IMO, and after having a 16s6p mtb build, i don’t think i’d want a smaller battery.

Mbs plastic hubs are fiiiiiine, aluminium hubs are for showponies. The MBS off road wheels are okish but they wear quite quickly and they don’t actually provide a lot of grip. I’d be looking at something like the trampa mudplugger if i did it again

You need some sort of block in between the battery box and the board. Apex might sell whatever they use, or you could look at something like the trampa dog bone but i doubtthe holes would line up.

Thanks for the response. Sounds like 16p is really the way to go but at least with the way my pack is built so far I don’t see anyway to get 16s6p in a 1200 with the bms. I should be able to get 14s6p in there the way it’s built now just adding 2 more parallel packs. Or I may be able to do 16s6p in the pelican 1300 which is same size but 2 inches taller. Or does that extra height get in the way?
I’ll look into the tramps tires as well.

And gotta do some digging on apex website to see if I can find there spacer

@ApexBoards hey could you possibly chime in on the mounting of the pelican case to the board. I couldn’t find any spacers or anything on the website.

Is there an afaptwr for jump drives and pro xl ii?

Yeah they have the multi hub mount that works with them

Hi,
It’s not something we list or sell separately but basically it’s a solid lozenge shaped piece of plastic with 50mm hole centres. (Holes for m6 bolts)
If you’ve got any questions, drop us a line on the live chat on the website for the quickest response times.

Awesome thank you! How wide and tall do you typically make them? And do you run a plate in the pelican case or just screws straight through the box.

So I double checked and I can only fit 14s6p im 8 batteries short of 16s6p. But I don’t know where the bms will go :joy:.
