That sucks, I hate that for you.

There are, you said reasonably worded letter, IMHO that was not reasonable by any stretch.

That’s actually very good advice.

I am gonna disagree with you on this.

This is what OS means to me as well, but I have to ask: how many open source projects have you been involved with outside of VESC?

Part of open source is fostering a community to develop and innovate. When one controlling party throws legal weight around and uses every justification imaginable to discourage people from developing this tech, it comes across as disingenuous and predatory.

You have been anything but friendly to those that have tried to develop VESC derivatives. Clearly, with Stewie.

You’ve gone after new esk8 companies that had only bought a maytech ESC and essentially bullied them to the point where they came to me asking if they had done something wrong and how they needed to comply with you. That’s not cool, and it’s hypocritical to say you support open source when you only embrace the parts that don’t threaten you.

Ultimately, this is skateboarding and you’re acting like a corporate-square.

But that’s not what you said. You said make it different because of Trampa’s design rights, which you’ve never made publicly available and I doubt they exist at this point. If your asking for someone to make a great leap forward in technology before they make a product based on the VESC design, then that’s just silly.

Also, for your legal enjoyment…

In case you didn’t see this as blatant hypocrisy, please allow me to point it out.

So Unity is a bad product in franks mined because it strain to fare away and is not helping trampa

Escape is a bad product in franks mined because it was to close to the VESC design and had a aluminium heatsink and a Squar box

So only option in franks mined is to helps trampa

ALL HAIL TRAMPA

Are we even having an adult conversation? Like @mmaner said there is no patent for it so one can design what he wants. Of course an exact copy is maybe a dick move but that would then lead to the copier’s failure. If I was to manufacture an esc and there are 2 option, melon shape and trampa “design”, 300 euro and 100 respectively, I would say fuck it and copy the 100 design for the whole community to benefit.
We aren’t children anymore, grow up Frank

I don’t need to name them, but I read your email correspondence, in full. Last year.

You were completely out of line.

It was bullying behavior. They bought a maytech VESC and didn’t even know what you were demanding of them. It wasn’t a trademark issue either.

You’re probably wondering which and my question is, how many such emails have you sent?

That relates to warranty that people need to spoil to use their product.
Bullet connectors that no one uses, outdated FW pre-intalled etc.

I think the take-away here is this…

  1. Frank doesn’t care who you are, if you have any possibility of affecting his profit margin he will sick lawyers on you. Right or wrong…even legal, is not am argument against this in Frank’s eyes.
  2. Make whatever you want and ignore the letters and emails that Frank sends, his bucket doesn’t hold any water.

To be completely transparent, I spent 20 minutes liking every post @Trampa has ever made so he would have to see this on his profile .

Absolutely not.
Layout and shape are often critical to functions of a pcb. especially when the schematic level is the same and even more so when RF is involved.
