Anyone got a 4wd build using a dv6s or anything makerx? Y’all doing it by canbus or split ppm config? I got a lipo board that’s 4wd with flipsky escs. Its running 2x 6s lipos for 12s but i heard makerx don’t do well with multiple battery packs for some reason. Also i remember from the Psychotiller days the split ppm setup would blow escs. Idk if this is still an issue now since that was like 5 or 6 years ago.

Currently running 4wd D100s using CAN bus. Ik that @Ash used split PPM on a Solos and G300s in the rear without issues.

This doesn’t really make a lot of sense.. the esc really only cares about voltage when connecting.. inrush current to empty caps could be a problem, but that’s an antispark issue.

split ppm is how all 3 of my 4wd run.. Never seen a 4wd canbus

Ya, i had a WCS 4wd and I guess the maytechs dave ran were shit bc one of the escs blew while riding it. I did hear from others that worked close to him say he tends to blow escs like that too. Also i think here really didn’t know how to build boards anyway imho.
My 4wd and my mates’ 4wd are all running canbus. Works flawlessly.

I’m also running canbus 4wd with G300 and D100s. Same with @Tasventouras . I’ve always used canbus for my 4wd builds.

What batteries y’all running and are they from one pack?
Just have to make sure your esc’s are connected in parallel before you connect your battery.
I was also warned not to run dv6s vesc 6 with g300 100-250 over can.
Ima need to see what the canbus wires for 4wd look like

not quite, for 4wd on escs not internally connected like dual skp solos it would need to be double split for the additional 2 escs. This is why I’m asking for someone to show what it looks like

I forgot the plot from my original comment but I think it was that splitting PPM is simpler. Unless someone sells daisy chained Can Bus wires ready to go for 4 escs. I’ve also heard can is more sensitive to interference so generally it’s better to have them short.
A splitter would work no problems but could potentially be kinda ugly and difficult to cable manage neatly. If you daisy chain you can sneak two wires into the same crimp(s) and make a single continuous harness that plugs into all 4 escs.
not sure how a splitter would help any with wire lengths, much of a muchness there. But interference can be somewhat mitigated by twisting the canh and canl wires together and even further protected by adding shielding and keeping the wires away from any high power cables (battery or phase). I don’t think the cable lengths in an esk8 are posing any sort of measurable problem in terms of CAN connection but it certainly doesn’t hurt to keep those cables as short as you can.
Personally i’d go the daisy chain as i’d prefer to crimp those little wires than fuck around with solder and heat shrink.

This is not true, CAN is a differential signal. It’s about as resistant to interference as you can get.

I haven’t been on here in forever lol.
I’ve done both, canbus is easier to setup but i prefer split ppm cause i have my throttle and brake curves set up differently front to back. (I also blew my canbus chips being dumb so didn’t have a choice but we won’t talk about that)
if the esc’s are connected over can and you plug in the xt90 on one with the other unplugged, you can blow the can chips. that’s the only thing i can think of that relates to that. all my esc’s are on separate plugs and i just make sure they’re not connected over anything (can/ppm) before i do, never had issues
i haven’t had any issues running it even with different esc’s, skp solos in the front and g300’s in the back. i’ve put that board through the wringer too with half a season of racing plus practice. not even a hiccup.
I mean you’d be making the same splitter regardless so not really?

on ppm, i had an extra split going to a female jst connector so i could plug in my ppm receiver
