3D Printing Discussions, Questions and Debugging

Why is it that i get warping mid print?
I print PLA at 205c.

the warping happens on parts the extruder is long finished with.

I have never seen this kind of warping. Can you paste the stl file here?

But 2 things you can do to reduce warping is

  1. Enable fan.
  2. Print thinner layers.

First picture is the first file and second, second.

Both times the warping happened on large files like these. I can’t remember if i had it on small ones too.
(names are auto generated, that why they are so funky)

Tremendous Wolt(3).stl (108.6 KB)

Smashing Rottis(1).stl (87.3 KB)

fan is disabled since i didn’t see a benefit from it. I had it running most of the time since i had the printer but turned it off a few months ago.

Layer height is 0.2mm

Fan turned off is the reason it’s warping. Trust me. Use a bowl of water test to make sure that the fan is blowing air at the correct spot, which is just below the nozzle.

will test that later.

i had warping issues with pla too because my bed was at 45°, now it’s a t 60 and it’s fine

My bed is at 65c

Never had any warping issues with PLA… usually warping happens with ABS if the temperature is too cold and you need an enclosure to keep it up.

It looks more like you have bad layer adhesion on the bed.
Clean your bed with acetone or IPA and print a little bit closer to the bed.

Also I deactivate cooling for the first layer and then activate it for the rest of the print for PLA.

Oh man I love onshape…
I only use the free web version though :frowning:

Good to know that’s an option to explore and try it out though. Thank you

I tried it, seems pretty straight forward. I am only concerned about being able to read in all my existing solidworks assembly into onshape. If I can’t do that easily, I’ll have to find some different means to run solidworks.

Exactly this. My detector is all modeled in solidworks so if they don’t play nicely, I’m stuck.

This design works in ABS, 100% infill.

For you Cura users, anyone every use the support blocker function? I have only been successful once with it when I wanted one section to have more infill then the rest of the model.

Now I have a model that I want one section to be printed slower than the rest. Any body have any tips?

I can set that whole thing up but when I go to preview it, it shows the same speed for the whole print.

Thanks.

I use it quite often. Especially when I want to have 100% infill only in certain areas. Haven’t tried other settings. Maybe they are not supported? Let’s know if you find more info.

So let’s see how much low can I get the relative humidity inside. Gotta make some space. Eventually I will strip it down to the bare minimum and have a drain pipe attached to the water tank.

It got down to 11% RH and just stayed there :(. I know industrial ones can do 5%. It seems like the pieltier cooler doesn’t go to much lower temperature.

Have you tried drying out that big sack of silica gel?

Yeah. And the min I ever got was 12. Normally it stays at 14.

I’m surprised you got it to read that low even. Very consistent with what I get and ours are dumping the water into a sink in another room. Humidity is a force to be reckoned with. The harder you push it, the harder it pushes back. It always finds a way in :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
