3D printed Mudguard progress so far

I was asked to share my current mudguard solution.

The design is strong easy to print and easy to remove.

It used M4 screws and threaded inserts.

the one in the picture is meant specifically for backfire g2 2019 trucks which have a hex shape to them and a cutout for the phase wires. Also the Fender needs to be installed in a specific side that why theres a mirrored file. I Included the step file and the stl files for the backfire.

Bracket Hex.stl (234.8 KB) Fender Hex Mirror.stl (642.9 KB) Fender Hex.stl (642.9 KB) Fender Backfire hub 96mm Hex Solid.step (578.8 KB)

Here is the caliber version. Keep in mind that I have not tested the caliber version since I dont have a build with caliber 2 truck and 97mm wheels. if anyone makes it then I’d like to hear your opinions.

Bracket Caliber.stl (214.4 KB) FenderMirror Caliber.stl (397.6 KB) FenderMirror Caliber.stl (397.6 KB) 97mm Fender caliber Fixed Solid v1.step (2.1 MB)

they can be printed two ways the one on top is the fastest and easiest to print. Its also very strong you can see me standing on it in one of the images.
the one on the bottom uses the most support meterial and takes much longer to print and sometimes fails to print properly but it is the ideal position for strength.

The threaded inserts are installed into the fender and the the best results they need to be pressed in from the two holes on the back.
press correct

pressing them in from the front will likely lead to a failure after 10+ rides.

I printed with PETG the layer height can be 0.2-0.6. nozzle:250C bed:90C

Thanks for posting. We were peeping them in a more private group where Max shared them yesterday. Nice work so far.

I had made my own last year. Mounting part with abs. Part on wheel with flexible tpu. Was great.

Single piece print, butt load of hot glue

this gives me an idea…

Single piece. Instead of hot glue it could be a threaded insert and a thumb screw. and maybe some threadlocker.

could probably use a grub screw instead for a more seamless look.

Yeah definitely gonna test out this one.

I’d like to but it’s a tapered and not round profile so I can’t get a good fit. I don’t own the printer so I can’t really experiment too much. Honestly the black hot glue is good stuff and it holds just fine

Thanks for posting, have you considered adding your own custom supports to print in the correct orientation for strength easier

I’ve only messed with custom supports once or twice. since cura isnt very intuitive in that regard it has lead to a little bit of procrastination.
