Drum roll……
The cut out in the adaptor also fits standard skate bearings…. So you can drop one in there and extra bearing support.
@moon’s got all sort of useful stuff…. I feel like I buy parts from him more than his drives.

Lol would have been cool to mention this was an option before i hacked up the pinions
Site needs major rework
just in case its usefull to anyone my original version for older design drive cases can be downloaded here
moonGreaseSaver v2.stl (265.4 KB)
moonGreaseSaver v2.step (87.9 KB)
Wait is that v1 file? Grease saver… what a name
Keeps the grease where you need it so do you don’t have to use as much. GreaseSaver.
I’ll check if it fits into batch 1
Which version fits v4?
@moon I just got back from an 8 mile ride, well the last two I had to walk , as one of my drives sezied up. I even saw a bit of smoke coming out from under the rorating seal when I stopped.
Upon taking it apart, it seems as though the helical wheel Gear has welded itself into the Carbon plate. I cannot turn it at all. Did I do something wrong?
What batch is this 5 or 6?
Batch5 I believe. Now discussing wiht DM. Thanks
Happened to me too but I ended up sanding it down, has been fine for me since, not ideal but I didn’t know what else to do, need to top up on spares
Wrongly sized / not enough wheel spacers. The wheel screws pulled your gear against the carbon plate because the spacers tend to compress when tightening down.
Good tip when first assembling your drives is to tighten everything down without the carbon plate and see if the gear says inside the gearbox case. There should be about 1 to 1.5mm gap between the gear and carbon.
When doing final assembly rotate the tires by hand before and after tighening the screws and wheel nuts. The rotating resistance and sound should stay the same, if it doesn’t then you have something rubbing.
Thanks GeorgS, I’ve just bought myself some metal spacer tubes that are the right length (if not a mm or two over) as I wasn’t loving my stack of plastic and washers, and will reassemble with better clearance.
I would recommend using the one piece 3D printable spacers that are available in Moon’s dropbox.
It does look good and works well
Upon cleaning it all up, I found my wheel bearing seized
I’m guessing the fact I’m on helicals meant it just pressed out any play in the system and caused my rubbing and gear melting. I’m really not having much fun with these gear drives.
How’s batch 7 production going…?
