13" tire build - Too big?

So I’ve been toying with the idea of this for a few years now, pretty much ready to throw money at it to make it a reality. Rebuilding my last board with a new deck, new lipos, and while I was at it, grabbed 2 Bro e-board decks. The second deck will be for building a 13" diameter tire setup. Been talking with @NoWind and I think I’m close to pulling the trigger on my component setup:
Stealth420 trucks, 1:6.25 ratio maxi drives, either 5 or 6" gokart hubs with custom adapters to connect to the gear drives properly, Reacher 6395 V6’s, (which I already have,) MakerX D100s, 12S/10(maybe 12?)P P45B’s.

I want this thing to look like a monster truck. Running 9" tires was life-changing going up from 8" and I’d like to think going larger just continues to yield benefits, depending on air pressure.

13" tires come in a few hub sizes, from 5" diameter through 6.5"; the 5 and 6" seem to be the nicest for my goals, and I figure having more sidewall may give the ability to absorb more vibration and bumps.

Quick update - Think I’m gonna settle on 13x5-6.5 tires and rims; there’s some nice square profile tires out there in that size and they have pretty grippy rubber compounds while still having good rain grooves.

13" will also give me about 40MPH top speed, which is the max I think I’ll ever want to ride; most of my time I’m in the 25-30 range.

Also some crazy wide tire width options out there, from 3" through 6" wide, and far more appropriate rubber compounds for road use, since they are designed for scooter, moped, and go-kart use. If anyone’s ever played around with 11+" tires, let me know.

I totally support this insane idea. I’m a onehweel rider so I have a lot of experience with gokart tires. Typically for onewheel you will see 11x6-6, but the options for tread are not very good. Mostly just rain treads. I have considered designing a custom onewheel for 13" atv tires. I got as far as drawing this model, and it just looked too crazy to me. Like my calves are in danger.

I like riding this tire for off road, but you might want something narrower.

A 13" board will definitely look and feel like a monster truck I think.

Wow that tire is insane looking. I have some 10x5-5 rain tread tires and hubs I’ll probably start with since I have them, but I definitely want to upgrade to 13" for the final iteration.

Go for it

I regretfully bought those 10 inch wheels for my kayak cart.

The Kayak would develop insane vibrations and harmonics above walking speed, but they do have a pleasing, to the eye, design.

It now rides on 200x50 pneumatics.

Nasa called, they need their rover back to mars by the end of the week. Pretty slick ride though

I think that’s a product of the light weight of the kayak and the rigidity of the wheels. Putting all 200 pounds of me on the board and they roll fine. On sand.

However, I think this winter I’m going to shave off the tread because it digs into the sand, which I think hurts mileage; and it hums.

Kayak with dog inside are about 110 lbs together, though without 50lb dog it was still developing harmonics, just at different intensities and speeds.

I thought vibration was due to tread, so I removed it all, but for center ring, and no difference.

I’m impressed you got bearings and pulleys attached to those wheels, I would bet money that was a high effort staged photo based on myvexperience with those wheels

I bought the worlds cheapest analog mountainboard, cut a truck in half, spun it in a drill and angle ground it to fit my Kayak’s hanger, Jb welded it in place.

Forms the basis of my Dog’s Land chariot too. Hundreds of miles on it.

Sorry for derail.

Unfortunately I didn’t talk too much about fitting the wheel bearings in the build log, nor do I have any pictures at all, but yes, I had to turn bearing carriers on the lathe.

So the wheels run surprisingly true.

Also I don’t go very fast.

It’s not abt the size of the wave, it’s a abt the motion of the ocean.

You can get a psychoframe from etoxx, and it has suspension too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Litp0CB07Z0

I like many things about the Psychoframe series, however wheel scrub is not one of them. I’d go through tires too quickly on a build with solid axles. Also not looking for a full bindings setup. 30+50lbs of board at high speed is not something I want attached to my feet.

@Titoxd1000 have a picture of your scooter tire build?

I got two builds with 10 inch pmt tires. They’re really good for street use, lots of grip
