thanks for the tip @Pedrodemio ! good stuff to know.
I don’t think there is any performance issues, just need to keep the bearings in a plastic bag before assembly so I don’t lose them, it’s no biggie.
@Trampa thanks for the tip - will do that this evening

it’s not even close to fitting, there is 2.2mm difference in the diameter of the adapters compared with the plastic spacer
the adapter fits in the wrong side of the hubs, but there is a lip that is stopping it fitting in the middle of the hub like it should (see bottom pic)

What hold you back from just turning the spoke 180 degree. Should work than, no?

that won’t work, no place for the valve to go and more importantly the inner tube would be on thin air instead of the inside of the hub
oh crap, I see what you mean, the spokes detach from the hub

I mean just the star in the middle. It’s not fixed to the plastic part of the hub.

I am running off to the workshop now to make that happen - tired, so very tired, I didn’t even think to do that
thanks for the suggestion, you are a star - if you are in paris I will buy you a beer tomorrow
and to make it worse that is exactly what Frank told me to do, I just didn’t quite get what he meant
