Trampa Barrels spring position

I run them on inner position on both trucks without bindings on a Trampoiline deck and love it, very carvy. It’s my commuter and I ride on street/concrete most of the time. With bindings the outer position is better.

I’ll take them for cheap :joy:

I definitely notice this, when it’s above 30C out it’s super soft but still stable, as soon as it’s below 25C they definitely start to tighten up.

I run the same positions but with bindings and have the same results… super carvy but still stable above 50km/h. I can turn 180 degrees within 1m radius but tighter than that and I’m on two wheels :joy:

thanks, could try kalys… next investment  lol
i wonder if then they are carvy but instable at high speed. maybe i should just roll back to my good ol double kingpin Landyachts evo was actually pretty good.

i tryed to use green dampa rear and yellow front both in outside position and it’s really difficult to turn, would it be easier with barrels ?

I have the Trampa barrels in the back and springs in front cranked down just so that the top of the screw JUST touches my finger if I stick my finger over the hole. Yellow dampas. Outer position. Carves lovely. Stable at 60km/h (usually - crashed last week but I think that was a Unity issue). Low speed turns (under 6-8km/h) are shite but I reckon you always need a bit of momentum to turn the board anyway. If you can’t bend your knees to carve without losing balance then you’re not using the board effectively IMO.

Alrighty, I changed the back position as well to inside, and rode it in a little. YAY, starting to get the stoke out of it now! It’s just also a completely different riding style you have to get used to, but it’s actually very carvy! Currently still running naked without motors downhill. Will set it up now. Looks like I would need either 8 inch tires or need some massive risers though as I have the feeling with 6.5 Inch wheels I would hit the bottom of the enclosure in the curve.

anybody tried to slightly cut the trampa barrels => shorten them to get a bit easier turning?

As minimum one guy cut out small rings in the middle of the Barrel to reduce the overall diameter. Not sure how that turned out in the long term.
I wouldn’t shorten them.
They should just fit how they are in between the baseplate and the hanger. They shouldn’t be much compressed. If you take away some mm you have a drop of no damping at all and then the same like before while turning.
Doesn’t make much sense I think.

I’ve seen people cut wedges out of the sides of them but I really don’t think it is necessary. I am 160lbs and can easily turn them on the inside positions. If it is cold out they do stiffen up a good bit though. In the summer they are wayyy more carvy.

Man I wish I had your problems, I need longer ones. Please send me your cuttings so I can prolong mine.

But joking aside don’t cut it because

Which deck do you have and do you ride with bindings?

With the wobbling Trampa deck (elastomere in outer position) and bindings the trucks were very carvy but also stable at speed which was great. With the ultra stiff MBS DW II deck the same trucks are way too carvy like if made for kids and unstable. When accelerating too hard the trucks start to wobble , also off-road they tend to wobble above a certain speed. But unfortunately it’s the only setup which works for me when riding trails.

You’ll laugh but I need to compress them with washers.

With 1 washer still wobbling so next step were 2 washers. This is how it looks compressed compared to uncompressed

i have cut the barrels before, I’d recommend using a hacksaw.

Ok thx to all i think i wont cut them

Newsflash
Barrel retainers different sizes now

Ah didn’t know.

I still prefer the E-Toxx retainers for 2 reasons. First the shape at the end is more rounded and they are adjustable. There is a M8 threaded hole (combined with M5 for bottom) where you glue (or thread locker) in a M8 grub screw. If you have holes in the deck you can adjust the compression of the dampers/barrels from top like with springs. I use shorter grub screws so nothing sticks out on top.

I wouldn’t need the washers shown in the pics in my previous post but it feels more sturdy and this way the level of compression is everywhere the same.

:flushed:
How much and did you ride with them?

Where did you get red barrels from ?

5mm, it was to fit them to a set of scrub trucks as they would have been compressed by about 10mm

The supplier sells 2 different shore ratings, the softer black ones and the harder red dampers. For science I bought the stiffer red elastomere dampers and it was a waste of money. They are so hard that it is impossible to steer, on lean the opposite wheels lift off instead of a curve so straight riding only :man_shrugging:.

I sent the dampers to a guy in australia (for shipping costs) because he wanted to try them even after I told him many times it makes no sense except world record speed runs without turns. I never got feedback from him, maybe he never came back home after his first ride because he couldn’t turn and is lost in desert :joy:

Ok now it makes sense :+1:

when you compare the trampa barrels with the spring loaded blue dampers which are stiffer?
im asking because i get wobbles at higher speeds with my MTB
so i want to stay with the barrels in the front truck but go for the blue dampers in the rear
does this make sense?
