He’s still secured in place as we speak.

Oh wait…

Fair.

Do you have a balance charger you recommend?

You’ve most likely convinced me to simply use the LLT as an external BMS. The additional ports required aren’t exactly convenient but it’s really not a deal breaker.

Your build thread has been an amazing resource! I saw what you went through to make everything fit, I definitely don’t have the skills or the tools necessary to do the same thing! The D140 is certainly discrete but not being able to wirelessly monitor each p group doesn’t give me the confidence to use it. The Stormcore is certainly more chonk than the unity but it should fit.

Trust me, I’m struggling to get a little separation between a metr antenna, Hoyt receiver and the BT receiver for the BMS with a charge port and a fuse to fit on the other side with the XT90. And thats around the unity

good build, very similar to my sportster build. im also using 110mm wheels on TB Caliber II 218mm clones, im a bit sketchy that it will bite on a hard turn if the board flexes at the moment its looking at about 5mm clearance with 91A riptide bushings and 96A pivot cup.

Try doing this, I added a third hole set and have the baseplate pushed all the way forward and it works

Really nice looking build, Bustin has great form. XTLA design’s neat hardware, she’s super cool!

Thanks mate, I haven’t got any of the parts yet (except the surfrodz) so there’s currently no build porn to speak of. Simply can’t wait to start!

I can thank everyone before me and especially eBoosted for inspiring this build

they do look quite nice, Im thinking i might ditch the 218mm hangers and go some 260mm from @Boardnamics will solve the issue and add some more stability

I have the Ultra Power 1200AC plus, but it’s a huge charger, not really portable. Definitely only something for the workshop.
I also have a regular 3 and 8A AliExpress charger wires up with a LLT bms I could just take with me if I need to charge during a ride.

Yeah faak that’s some dough right there! That would cost me around 500 scomo moula’s to get that down here. Will still consider it, but definitely leaning towards using the LLT bms externally. Then one day hoping to get the FlexiBMS Lite, looks like the perfect combo of OS(?), size, features and made by our favourite muffin @SimosMCmuffin

Getting batteries in Australia is next to impossible smh :pensive:

True, nkon have always been my go-to but now they don’t ship to Australia at all… Checking with other overseas suppliers that do ship to Aus generally costs 50% more than nkon.

And forget local sellers, most charge 15 bucks for ONE p42a. Any supplier suggestions?

If anyone knows it’s @glyphiks

Research and parts update:

  • Batteries…

My days have primarily been devoted to determining what supplier has the most reasonable price shipped to Aus. My research has pointed me towards Vapcell, thanks to @glyphiks recommendation during the NKON funeral.

Vapcell battery supplier has emailed me an updated quote for the Molicel P42A at the price of $4.70 USD per cell @50 pc quantity (plus 88 usd shipping to Aus, may be different for other countries).

It’s the best price I’ve found so far that ships to Australia, still not as good as nkon but RIP… I haven’t yet contacted other suppliers (Queenbattery and Battery bro come to mind based on my research) but I will most likely purchase from Vapcell.

For comparison’s sake the next cheapest option from Liion wholesale charges 5.10 usd per cell @50 quant. But they wanted to charge a $335 USD shipping fee via DHL… Fuck that.

  • Belts:

This build will most likely take months to materialize so I don’t much care for local stock or fast shipping. The priority is the cheapest price from a ‘reputable’ seller.

I’ve found Bycdj Store on Aliexpress has the best reviews and countless options. Most importantly when shopping is ensuring that they have a fibreglass core construction. Here are the most popular sizes:

HTD 5M timing belt C = 295/300/305/310
HTD 5M timing belt C = 315/320/325/330
HTD 5M timing belt C = 335/340/345/350
HTD 5M timing belt C = 355/360/365/370

Alternatively just search for the size you need on their store. They have every size anyone would need.

If you’re building a board and are unsure of what length to get use the BBman belt calculator:

https://www.bbman.com/belt-length-calculator/

Using my build as an example:

  • XTLA adjustable centre distance = 106 - 112 mm.
  • Motor pulley 18T
  • Wheel pulley 36T
  • Belt width 15mm
  • Pitch HTD5M

This comes to roughly a 360mm pitch length. The belts from Aliexpress are less than 10 usd for 5 belts meaning it doesn’t hurt to purchase 5 of each pitch length roughly close to 360 mm (355, 360 & 365).

I’ve also preemptively purchased 450mm belts to pair with the Evolve AT kit since I can’t find any other AT system w/pulleys that’s in stock. The price is also very competitive in Australia.

  • AT Hubs and tires:

Evolve’s AT conversion kit seems like the best value for money, especially within Australia. If there are any recommendations similar to 200USD please let me know!

I’ve entered the values into the belt calculator but they don’t seem to list the 66T pulley option. Does anyone know if the Evolve tyre pulleys run the same HTD5M 15mm spec as most others? They don’t list any details apart from pulley teeth count.

  • I need your help!

I’m still searching for the following items, preferably with competitive prices and >45 day shipping :see_no_evil:

  • Fish paper rings for 21700’s
  • Adhesive fish paper to wrap cells
  • Fibreglass tape
  • 0.2mm * ~25mm pure Nickel

Spot welder:

The general consensus has been to avoid the all-in-one units under 500 from China. Which afaik, for something reputable under $2k, that leaves the Boss welder and the Kweld. Both of which are out of stock…

Any other thoughts?

Good price on the p42a. Buy those up

What’s the gearing situation and motor kv? You shooting for 40+ mph?

Hard to give input on the AT kit. Haggy just moved to Europe I believe. But I don’t fully know the shipping situation for Australia

Spot welder I use with two Turnigy 3S lipos that are something like 60-120C

Vapcell lists themselves as an authorised China distributor so seems legit?

Current gearing is set for 43 mph weighted (69 km/h) I’ve purchased multiple wheel and motor pulleys so I can experiment with different gearing. This is my current planned setup: (motors: Lacroix 190kv 6374)

  • 18T, 40T, 110mm TB ~ 43mph - 69km/h
  • 18T, 36T, 80mm Kegels ~ 36 mph - 57km/h
  • 18T, 66T, 175mm Evolve tyres ~ 41mph - 66km/h

Keep in mind I only weigh 65kg so I’m not concerned about the potential lack of torque. I’ve also purchased 16T motor pulleys just to experiment and get the final setup dialed in.

Not sure how much clearance the 80mm Kegels will give, probably none 🤦 Will test it out anyway :tipping_hand_woman:

Yes, it does.

Two 360mm belts comes with the Evolve AT 66T conversion kit.

That’s good to know!

If so that’s convenient, although it shows 295mm belts in the 2nd photo.
