So I decided to start the install of the big beems from PEV components (@ShutterShock )
I considered a few install options but ultimately wanted these features out of the lights.
1- The lights mount using a quick release two part design that slides together, so being able to quickly remove the lights seemed like a nice feature to try and implement.
2- I wanted it powered off the main battery.
3- I wanted to be able to somewhat easily turn them on/off. Considered loop keys and buttons.
4- install as clean as I can.
Running power from the main battery
I still had one more accessory power connection ready for the lights that @monsterbuilder and I pre planned when he built the battery for me.
I removed the lid, vesc tray, battery before then drilling with a super long extension a small hole to route the wires for the lights. Added in a fuse for good measure.
Creating a wedged riser power hub
To keep things clean I decided to use the 10 degree angled riser to house the connections and inputs.
From there it will be controlled using a push button installed into the backside of the riser.
On each side of the riser Ive placed xt30 connections. These will be the quick release detach points for the lights.
Printed this with 99 walls in PET G having had good luck using it for risers in the past.
With wires run and soldered, xt30 and button installed I was able to test the functionality before finalizing the install. Works great!
Covering the power wires
The power wires will run under the deck and into the riser. To cover the wires on the bottom of the board Im using a TPU printed cover that’s bolted into some threaded inserts.
Finalizing the install
I then cut and added xt30s to lights themselves, allowing them to directly connect to the riser.
I just wanna see it work!
I haven’t had a chance to do a night ride with them yet but they are BRIGHT! Having the ability to quickly disconnect and remove them from the board ensures they won’t accidentally be turned on and drain my battery. I’ll likely need to play around with which angled mount to use, Ryan includes multiple options, so I can get the beam where I want it. Overall Im really happy with the lights and the install.
Here is the STL for the 10mm riser also for anyone that might want to use it. Has a place for two XT30 connections (glue drip holes above if you wanna glue them in place), a 12mm hole for a button and a small hole in the front where my power wires are inserted.
