Not ignoring your question, just didn’t really answer it directly.
In my experience every time vesc firmware is updated, a whole new list of fucking stupid quirks, oddities and downright dangers come into play.
Its been suggested over and over again that new firmwares be properly beta tested before they are released, but we still keep getting shit update after shit update. Fix one thing, break 3 others kinda thing.
I’d love if the vesc project was forked and a stable esk8 branch was developed, but ain’t nobody got time for that, it’s easier to bitch about it.
TLDR: vesc is too unstable IMO to be putting in big dollars worth of R&D. I don’t agree that vescs should be used in production boards at all though for the same reasons.
Hahah when Dylan rode XP1 the other day and experienced the difference in traction after the wheels warmed up he was like “have you guys thought about tyre warmers?”
I’ve definitely thought about it to avoid needing warm up laps. Once we start regularly having race events here I’m sure we’ll try many things.
Not yet, for the moment we are focusing on building an initial limited batch of 15 boards, 5 for us and 10 for customers for delivery before Christmas.
Aside from having extra boards that we can ship around for demos and reviews, and providing the opportunity for 10 people to receive the boards before anyone else with a limited livery and chassis number badge, the reason we are starting with only 15 total is because we’ve never mass produced something like this before, so we will be using this batch to setup and optimize our assembly process before we attempt a larger quantity.
While the Mach One is quite mechanically simple and robust, manufacturing wise its very complicated with well over 100 components so I’m aware of the upcoming manufacturing challenges and want to take things step by step.
But if all goes as planned we will be taking sales for the full production board in the first quarter of 2024 for deliveries starting by Q3 2024.
If rapid prototyping and testing V3 at the factory in China next month is successful we would be taking orders sometime in October depending on how quickly we manage to complete all the testing.
Lol I can picture someones ears pricking up at “special motors”
Now that I’ve tried a big 128 cell pack and realised the extra weight sucks and actually slows you down I can definitely appreciate this setup. I couldn’t hang with @Jaws on your v1’s in the bends either.
Very interested to see Dylan get at that T-race. Can imagine it being a super effective setup for it.
