The cons of running heelstraps + super soft bushings + ultra deep lean… it’s not easy to stand up
pre-race stretch?
That’s mid-race after every fall hahahha
Today’s best lap
And having some fun with my sparking slide gloves!
love these vids you’ve been pumping out. really gives people an idea of how much shifting your weight around plays a role in this racing
I feel this, both physically and emotionally. Only advice I can offer is to grab the far side of the deck while standing up
Thanks! I’ll give it a try next time
Just started planning for esk8con… I want to run the finances just to see if it’s even realistic that i can make it out there.
Thought it might be interesting for others as well.
Here are the standard costs associated with such a trip:
- Getting to the airport
- Flight
- Hotel
- Food
- Esk8con ticket
probably ends up 1.6k$ ish
But I also need to take the board there, and that means a ton of extra expenses:
- Rifle case for travel, but weight could end up being problematic, and size is also challenging to fit into.
- Potentially oversize luggage fees, but I might be able to avoid paying that, need to ask the airline if they can consider this as sport equipment and what’s the weight limit for sports equipment (they should but it’s not explicitly mentioned in their rules)
- Figure out the battery situation, this is a big one.
- Potentially a charger? Anyone know if these huawei PSUs work on 110v? Or any chance that there will be 220v at esk8con?
And extra expenses that I would pay for parts (I am paying these regardless if I am coming though)
- another set of Tito Duality trucks (modified to not need lean stoppers for chubbies)
- custom machined hubs that take BRP / stooge tires and fit onto boardnamics gears
- BRP tires in 7", yet to decide on width but mostly considering 3.5" at the moment for all 4 tires
- double row angular bearings so that the smaller bearing spacing works without killing bearings all the time
- and maybe a battery pack
- depending on how much my board will weight I probably need to leave the trucks and wheels behind and get them shipped to Europe
So let’s get to my battery situation. The current pack is obviously not suitable for travel. There’s a couple ways forward from here:
- ship the pack by sea, not a fan
- borrow / rent a 20s4p brick, probably ends up cheapest option
- build a travel pack but then I max out at 20s3p or 21s3p. I imagine it 6 cells per section, the last section maybe just 3 cells if I go 21s instead of 20s. This would be pretty cool, but a ton of work to build, lots of 3d design, lots of 3d printing, and quite challenging overall.
- fly in a 2-3 days early and build a 21s4p or 20s4p brick there. Then ask someone local to sell it for me.
What makes this decision harder is that long term I would want to change out my current 21s4p pack for a 20s4p or 21s4p pack with tabless cells here in Europe… So it’s possibly 2 battery builds. Cost would add up. Unless I can get out 250 amps from 3P… Which actually might not be impossible now. All I know is that first I need to build my jump board’s 20s1p to see if BAK 45D are enough for this. Decisions, decisions.
I’ll close with saying this doesn’t mean that I am coming just yet. Depends on how my situation at my job will change early next year (because for now all I know is that it will change and it might make it impossible to save up enough).
could probably save a bit joining a group airbnb or even sharing a hotel room
that’s the plan for sure but unfortunately that’s just a small part of the expenses.
Getting the parts I need as well as paying the trip I’m gonna total about 3.5k$, that’s a lot of money for me.
yup, i hear ya. hopefully you do make it. if you need help with anything, you have a huge community willing to help
You’re welcome to share mine, I’ve got a high power adjustable charger. One less thing for you to bring/buy
Would be cool if you do make it out to esk8con.
I was thinking of getting a booth this time around.
Where can you get this option or is it custom?
It’s possible to get it custom ordered from BRP. There’s also a UK shop that stocks 7" BRPs in 405 compound (which is I think the 45A compound used by stooge as well, but correct me if I am wrong). However they only have 3" and 4" width.
Given that I am not particularly heavy (180lbs, maybe will be 190 with all gear once I get some moto leathers) I am not convinced that I could heat up 4". But 4" seems to have better grip than 3" when heated up as far as I am aware. It’s possible to custom order some of the BRP tires in 3.5" if you order direct. I think that would be the ideal width for me, but I am yet to decide.
I wonder if these have the updated fixes. I think there were issues with the foam or the glue that led to early failure.
Not sure about that, good to know! I’ve actually contacted Moe if he could arrange a set of 7" with his specifications for me, but he hasn’t replied yet. And also about what width he recommends
Did a very slight PB of 13.27, 0.01 better than last session
Late into the session I also found a line that I feel like has potential. I had one lap where I was super slow in the first corner (exiting it with over a sec delta to best lap) and finished the lap only about 0.20 slower than best lap. I just need to connect that ending with a good first corner entry and I will have the first position. Hopefully I can connect it next session.
My findings from that lap are to take previous laps last turn a little wider and stay wide but straighten quickly. Going little wider than usual entry into the first turn, tight turn at the end of the T, late apex the next cone, then try to straighten out as quick as possible in the end again so I can get back on the power, but wide enough so that I can make the first turn again.
Also this is not a completely new finding, just one that at the moment I find hard to consistently implement. Brake a lot, let off, take 4th cone and straighten out aggressively, brake more, let off for 5th cone.
Also really glad I’ve got a motorcycle helmet along with the rest of my gear today. Did a pretty bad highside to close the session.
The camera didn’t have much light but you can still kinda see the silhouettes of what happened. I am fine thankfully.
But I am ordering another one of the same helmet after this fall.
glad you’re alright bro, crazy how much improvement you’ve made recently
Aye. Truely inspiring
