Potential new deck build project. Mountainboard/Esk8. Project Regicide

Cool I’ll check it out.

JBD BMS sounds good to me.
Especially being able to configure it to 14S.

Is buying batteries from Alibaba sketch?

Was thinking maybe these guys, 14S1P.

I’m thinking terminal batteries are probably the better option for me, as spot welding, even for battery tabs, is probably disagreeable for my pacemaker.

For the most part, definitely sketch.

I’m sure some legit deals exist but I’m not going to risk my $ finding out, and I don’t recommend you do either.

I’d disagree with this. The only times i’ve ever used that app it was clunky, many features didn’t work and it had major lag, sometimes taking up to a minute to display the actual correct values.

Strong unrecommend for that app from me.

If you’re looking for stuff that will be supported for a while, Boardnamics might not be the best pick  He’s phasing out his stuff. MBS makes motor mounts for the Matrix 3 trucks you could check out also if you hadn’t already.

The clamps are sold separately.

Your experience is different than my experience so now i hate your fucking guts

Damn i thought i had already earned this badge

Those particular mounts might not be around forever, But the Matrix 3 should be around a while.
So I’m saying I’m going to make my trucks match the geometry of the Matrix 3 hangers, and then any matrix 3 truck mounts should work.

I’ve already 3D printed MBS’s Matrix 3 clamps, so I can verify fit with those, as well as with the boardnamics set I plan to use.

Steering away from Alibaba, looking though LFP batteries I can find in stock, I’m thinking maybe these monsters?

headway_40152s_17ah_lifepo4

They’re so huge, I’m thinking anything more than a 10S1P might be bigger of a battery pack than I want.

But, they are on sale. And they have a high enough discharge. 50A continuous, 170A Peak.

I’ll just need to adjust the gearing to the lower voltage.

As long as evcomponents.com is a reputable enough source, is there anything I’m missing?

I remember @malJohann used to use these type of cells and i was always intrigued.

Found the thread.

So sounds like current wasn’t high enough with these cells in 1P.

Looking at his Metr pro data with that battery pack, and comparing it with mine for how I ride, I think there’s only a couple edge cases than I’m pulling more current than it looks like his pack wants to give.

But its hard to say “Good enough” isn’t it?

Totally. Without trying it, it’s definitely a hard call, especially given all the variables.

I feel like if i were going to try lifepo4, i’d be leaning towards prismatic cells.

Iron is heavy

I’ve been looking at them.

You’d think being rectangular, it would be easier to find a good fit for what I’m wanting to do.

Like, you’ve got these guys:

Seems like a really good price for the wh.
But, I’m not looking for more than 600wh. 400-600. Otherwise it will be too big and too heavy for my liking.

So what are you supposed to do?
4S1P, a whole 12v?

Something like these might work, if I don’t get destroyed by shipping costs:

14s2p
627wh
90+ Continuous amps
Obscene Peak Amps, I’m not sure if I can even show those numbers.

The ONLY thing that I wish looked better on these was the charging current.
Which is listed on the table as only 7A.

When going down steep downhills, the max regen current needs to be high. At least -30A I’ve found, and I’ve pushed that to the limit a few times, so I’d certainly be happier going higher.

I’ve already had one slow motion crash when I’d just got my board and conservatively set my regen to -12A
Had to do a controlled abort right into a chain link fence at the end of a hairpin at 18mph.

But I’d probably just assume that if these cells can handle such high peak discharge, that the regen peaks would probably be fine too.

But its also just… so dependable.

And I want to be able to store and charge my board inside the house, which is something I don’t do with my Lipo boards.

Yeah dude, for sure

They’re only going to be seeing those currents for very short amounts of time, they’ll be fiiiiiine
