Molicel P42A – Max Pulsed Charging Current Specs (for regen settings)

It would be nice if the vesc could convert/ chop the natural AC frequency of the motor to form pulses. That’s not possible as-is and would need another circuit?

I don’t know what the waveforms look like during regen, sorry

You can’t just chop though, you need to dump half of the pulses somewhere and that wastes a lot of regen and creates a lot of heat. Not sure a tiny percentage increase in possible cycle life is worth all that.

Could a battery be pulse charged through the vesc? So not regen being used but a dc battery as the energy source turned to pulses by the vesc?

So have a second external pack being used to charge the internal pack via pulsing of current by the VESC?

Sounds like it’s getting complicated again. The second pack would be replacing the motor as a different kind of “regen” used for charging? IMO just using a pulsed external charger is easier, especially if only getting a percent or two of extra cycle life.

Yea.

It’s impractical and just wondering if the vesc could do it.

Could VESCs possibly use the motors to absorb the current like how it feels to spin a motor by hand when the phases wires are touching?

I’m not sure how far VESCs are from being able to join/let current flow between the phases but it’s a way to put less strain on the battery more on the motors.

edit: I was messing around spinning the motor with a drill and touching metal against the phase wires against and there was a sudden jolt and some sparks shorting the phases. Not sure if there would be much low speed braking.
