Maybe stupid, or not, but Boston gets decent amounts of snow. Snowmobile Frankenstein board build feasible or not?

Yoooo lol. I want videos please

This has been done before if I recall. It failed.

I doubt it works in any considerable amount of snow. I ride in snow a lot and it takes way more than that.

At a minimum you need chain/gear drive you will break motor axles with belts as the snow will pile up between the belt and the pulley

You need 4wd…

You need non-slick tires

And you need chains, studs, socks, or at least real off road tires larger than 6 inches.

Source: i live in Chicago, I can ride in 6inches or so of snow (board nearly
Submerged)

That’s awesome!! I’d like to try that front end on this 16s three-wheeler that I made.

It might tear shit up.

What if instead of using two skis, you use the front 12 inches or so of a snowboard on a slightly flexible riser?

My test worked reasonably well even without studs. I agree that belt drive will be unusable in deep snow. Nonetheless, testing and tweaking will continue…

I see what you are going for, where on it would you mount to the deck? Middle or back of the cut snowboard

Also I think what you are looking for there is just a regular snowboard with some form of propulsion.

That is a good question. It would take some testing.

Proud to also be crazy I guess. :joy:

The 9" tires will only help

You are a M A D L A D. I love it. Maybe next winter I’ll consider doing a studded tire build…

Are those front skis made for skateboard trucks or did you wizard mod them?

I guess I could google them but I like talking to you.

Too late :triumph:

Weird snowboard scooter hybrid that you crossed over maybe?

Yep! They came from something like that.

I’ve been Craigslisting looking for ones haha. I want to try this out so badly. Definitely need gears or chains for the snow. I got caught up quick in wet snow when I started slowing down.

Yup I got a price figured out.

$200 for a complete snowmobile track with the frame and rollers and everything.

Just need to replace rear trucks with this.

It would be cool if it was on a left/right rudder system so you could just swing the arm one way or the other to turn.

Perfect! My ski test works well enough that I just need to add better drive to the rear end.

just found this as well.

interesting but not at that price

That actually looks cheap/reasonable for what it is. Any less and I’d be suspicious it’d break when you were out in a snowstorm. Which is exactly where you don’t want a breakdown.
