Is there any safety in redundancy by having multiple ESCs?

I wonder how vescs break. I’ve been lucky for awhile and ride a bike not a board at 50 yrs old so feel safer there.
One of the few things I know is the inrush current from the higher voltage people are using these days kills the vesc capacitors. I suspect often they’re the first to break and with them broken other bits on the board come next.

I have some experience in this matter.

  • water damage
  • shorting things to the battery
  • phase wire disconnection during motor operation
  • motor shorting
  • poor vesc mounting and vibration
  • dust
  • motor amps too high
  • battery voltage too high
  • erratic remote input
  • salty air (coastal regions)
  • DRV randomly failing
  • CANBUS randomly failing
  • gear drives jamming

These are only the ways I’ve managed to destroy vescs. I’m sure there is more to add to this list.

Ok no, im gonna have to stop you right there. No vehicle is ever safe to pilot under the influence of alcohol. If you drink too much, get a cab after.
