I dont live in the US, I dont have 1000+$, BUT I WANNA RACE!

No, he would be much better off with a boardnamics geardrive or an open setup like Moe runs on his race boards.

You just lazy  but serious though those will cost him a penny compared to the other parts.

Plus “open geardrive” is just two gears on a mount, nothing special or “better” than what we would make.

Diy Chains or “open geardrive” would be the best option for his race choices.

Shit just got real folks, a friend of mine offered to gift me the 1700kv racestar I mentioned above, so I guess I will try to slap it on a board either way
Still not clear on how I will solve mounts and gearing though, but one step at the time…

yeah you know how to design stuff in CAD?

I was planning something like the open gears moe uses (think its pretty much the only way to solve the gearing) thinking that 9\86 might work but can’t wrap my head around the numbers

Unfortunately not :\ played a little with google sketchup but that’s as far as my skills of modeling goes

oh you can just hacksaw and drill your own out of some steel I guess.

Any idea where to source the gears?

Problem with the calc is that it won’t let me use 5s but been playing with it a lot and a 9\86 should bring me to around 40kmh and allow me to tune using different motor pinions, at least I think it would…

did you try putting 5 in the series

Pinion should be easy but spur is less straight forward I’ve found :frowning:
lol I did and it didnt work, but fuck me it does now my bad sry!

Some of this might be relevant.

For example: this run was on 32p (mod.8). 9/72 open gear drive on 5mm motor shafts.

Found this but long shipping time and only 72t

@MoeStooge do you think its doable with a 1700kv single 9/72 gearing or would i need a bigger spur?

This is where im at

Seems doable right?

another cheaper option for the spur is this:

I want to get into competitive skydiving! But my budget is only $500!
You see the problem here?

Esk8 is not a cheap sport. Especially if you want to get into top end race boards.

The cheapest solution would be to have everyone buy meepo v3 boards and put cones around a parking lot. Lots of fun. Low budget. Since everything is ‘stock’ there is no “pay to win”

Any board thats more ‘serious’ would blow your budget by 3-4x.

Or get a $500 analog board and race downhill as others have suggested. But that takes more skill to learn to slide corners and etc

Not really… if you’d post that question on a skydiving forum I bet you’d get some sound advice and maybe it would be some dudes who sew their own that would give you an old one for cheap and lend you a suit for a dive etc.
Isn’t that the point of forums?

I dont have anyone to skate with, was just curious of where ppl would start, took this advice and went looking for parkinglots today, think i have a nice spot, dont have any cones or anything but figured id find some sticks and stones or smth…
I have a board, nothing fancy at all, a pintail with a 380kv, 120a esc 5s (soon to be 6 if my fakking battery ever arrived) 16/48 gearing on 75mm Orangatang Durian 86a(!), starting there but wanted the question to be more general and fun so put a budget and some suggestions

I mean hey, if you can race around sticks and stones, when you pick up a set of cones, you’ll be ready for them

If someone has suggestions on track design please chime in!
Im thinking start with a eight then a straight then another eight back the straight and that makes a lap, haha hope that makes sense :stuck_out_tongue:

You could look up some gokart track designs too, since they’re on the same scale mostly

Actually some of them are probabably even a bit small

some nice tight corners
