How to build an ESK8!

eBay should have everything you need, there’s no reason to buy a VESC, lingyi is just as good and comes with a remote, ziplock makes some great enclosures.

Don’t build one

just get a bunch of random parts and put them on a table.

  1. Single hub motor kit from eBay

  2. Used hoverboard battery

  3. China esc (diyeboard style) or rc boat esc

Heat shrink makes for a great enclosure.

Oh and throw it all on a trick deck

Don’t use locktite because restricting your bolts freedom of movement is messed up.

Salvage cells from different junk power tools to make your battery cheap and easy.

Don’t ever measure anything, expert builders should be able to eyeball it right every time.

Solder cells together*

You also don’t need to buy Maytech, just pull the motor out of your blender or stand mixer, basically the same shit.

blow your savings on a board now, you can save up for a ruroc later down the line

-Glue a brick towards the top of the board to reduce speed wobbles.
-whatever vesc wizard tells you it’s wrong! Double every number you see. Moar speed, torque, range!
-nuts don’t screw in easily? You forgot to remove the seal at the top. Grab some pliers and strip them out.
-seller is the cheapest on the entire planet, barely speaks a word in english and asks you to pay with by friends&family? It’s fiiine. Trust me

3.) fuck those guys advice flat decks with mountainboard trucks look cool!

4.) bitch about prices of batteries to get a better deal then get the cheapest one on Ali

5.) start group buys to get your parts cheaper (use the savings for badass ruroc)

6.) lose your shit over two week shipping delay. That’s just unreasonable

7.) list it for sale for $3,000 your time is valuable!

8.) ask Mike for unicycle recommendations, you’ve peaked in the Esk8 world and they’re way better anyway

  1. buy pre-built, put new griptape on it and hide in shame.

optional - buy pre-built send to damon to fix, claim it’s your own work while on the street.

  1. make sure you tape your phase wires together when you wire your board, the motor needs all three to work.

  2. don’t bother setting up your vesc or doing battery cutoffs, the default settings work fine.

  3. no one needs proper belt tension anyway, just leave it loose and then complain about the belt being too long

  4. alextech.

  5. make sure 4 every question you have that you make a new thread

  6. try and do a group buy your first day on the forum, not like we need to know who you are

For AT builds:
Buy four different size wheels and tires. The uneven terrain will match up perfectly with them and you’ll get the smoothest ride you can imagine.
For street builds:
Clearance- the lower the better! If you can’t hear your enclosure getting belt-sanded by asphalt your center of gravity is waaay too high and you are absolutely positively going to fall, just like your mother said you would.
