Ill take 5 gallium nitrides to go please
May I have some gallium nitride with my spaghetti ?
Bump
This a thing now?
Never has been. Never will be.
$300 for a charger is an absolute joke
That one is, this thread one won’t.
Why though? 400w is not impressive.
$300 for a large and slow charger makes zero sense.
We have better options for 1/3 the price.
Whats the best option for a fast, slim 12S charger?
SKP and Radium both sell small 12s high amp chargers.
I own a 18s 6a SKP charger that is quite small and I’ll take that along on longer rides.
Aliexpress is always an option but I don’t know any quality brands to look for in chargers.
93°C?
That’s ridiculous and a clear indicator of a lousy design and/or exaggerated device ratings. IIRC the safety regs cap external plastic temps at 75°C and that s already verrrry high. Internal temps are much higher.
Even worse, that IR gun is far enough enough away to be including a lot of cooler areas into its view. The projected laser spot is just the center of a wider field-of-view.
But it’s GaN
Ahh…then all is golden!
GaN components often do have a higher max rated temp than standard silicon ones but we don’t know if only the GaN ones are making all that heat and/or if their max temp spec is also being exceeded. Even if just the GaN components (which are just a couple, to a few, FETs) are the toastiest any nearby silicon components, caps, etc. could be too hot for decent reliability. Especially the caps. They have much shorter lives if always hot.
update time:
i sold my meepo flow with that charger since that’s what it came with the board, and next owner told me after 2 charging session, it never turned on anymore, guess it cooked itself to death.
kinda glad i got rid of it before it became my problem
hi there,
maybe I should write this to bioboards directly, but I think this matters to all of us. clearly most of us want a lighter charger, not a more silent one. I modded most of my chunky bulky 10-15A 12-16S chargers with more silent fans of similar air throughput specs, but I weighed the ones I travel with the most (the one of a p2s 16s 15a charger) and including DC cable and connector it weighs a hefty 1.8kg! if anyone could get this down to say 600grams, while maintaining similar dimensions and loudness levels, I would gladly pay 200+€/$ for this, maybe even 300$, as less weight on the shoulders on long rides really is a relief, while also helping with high speed stability (the less weight you got in your backpack, the lower your center of gravity is, the calmer your board, in my experience). so, can anyone just build this instead of messing around with something nobody asked for as shown in this thread? it would also help to get inspired by nifty cooling solutions the pc gamer industry has brought up in the last couple of decades. really lovely heatsink and airflow designs to be found there tbh, very advanced.
dafuq, where did you get those? I got a very similar one, with knob to change amps, up to 15a 14s it goes, but it weights 1500+grams
It’s not gallium nitride but small and adjustable and best bang for buck. Been going well daily for a month at least. I only push it to 13amps (87v).
Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out! $125.00 | Charger 90v 120v 0- 20A 15A Adjustable Charger 140v 134v 126v LI-ION Lithium Lifepo4 Battery Pack Charger LTO
