On a side note TI InstaSpin is known to be a pretty reliable and solid thing to work with when you build your ESC tbh!
Just mcu are expensive on purpose since you pay license with the hw (some functions are mcu based).

That thread is general for any anything technical related to design mfg or production of esk8.
More focused thread on FOC seems useful.
