Im pretty sure that passing the eRPM limit, even under no load, has a chance of letting out the magic smoke.
Yes, but that has its own set of risks.
You can set an ERPM limit to something like 55k and it will reduce power so as to not exceed that.
But if for example, you’re going down a hill, planning to use the brakes to control your speed and the motors exceed 55k while freewheeling, you will suddenly have no brakes.
spinning them up with no load is a perfect way to blow the esc. At least it’ll happen without you on the board at speed.
Then why do you need 12s with 190kv motors?
Uh I ordered 49 p42a. Also future proofing
Also the bms I have is 12s. I’ll probably sell my dv4 and get a dv6 anyways. It’s been on my “should probably do” list. This way, if I do spin it up over 60k there’s not too much of a risk as it appears that vesc6 have a higher tolerance.
That’s why I mentioned it, I was worried about making that mistake. I suppose it’s a good time to get a vesc6 to minimize my chance of smoke
This is true in more ways than one. There’s lots of great options out there for HW6 ESC’s. The DV6 seems like a solid choice.
Yep. Already selling the vesc4 and made a thread. If no one had a lightly used one, I would have gotten a dv6 and the accompanying Bluetooth module directly from maker x
Ahh…okay. I didn’t feel it was unreasonable to want 15 min charge. It’s just tough to do.
Sorry, I don’t have any BMS recommendations.
Thanks sooo much for these articles, way informative and physics driven!!
