The only thing making it “durable” is the fact that it’s about an inch thick.
Zero flex, no bounce, no give, cuz if they flexed at all, they’d crack in half.
You’ll chip the edges
And it only looks that cool if you’ve got no grip tape, so you’ll slide off it.

(If you haven’t noticed, I am a plastics snob. Polycarbonate is WAYYY better deck material in actual use than acrylic. But composites (even wood composites like plywood) are better than plain plastic.)

Why bother trying to make something durable out of something that is clearly not? Wouldn’t it be easier to enforce the material with 2 enforcement poles (metal, wood, carbon?). That way the surface can be a lot thinner while retaining rigidity of the board. Even if you manage to get your hand on bulletproof glass, it’s gonna weight a ton in desired thickness.

This is true, but the great thing about PC compared to acrylic is that it’s much tougher so you can use a far thinner (and lighter) piece.

That said, solid polycarbonate (or any other plastic) is not a great deck material. You can get much better strength with fiber-reinforced whatever, be it glass fiber filled plastic, wood, or full-on resin-and-fabric.

I do happen to have a ~3 by ~4 foot piece of half-inch thick PC on hand, that would probably be at least bullet-resistant. And yes, it is heavy as fuck.

hmm perhaps I could use vacuum formed polycarb as the base material for the deck/enclosure and then put a strip of fiberglass down each side leaving the center clear as possible.

for scratch resistance I would have a layer of plastic/other clear protective material stuck on it that could be removed once scratched up or for showing it off.

Then clear frit grip of course.

It’s possible to do a simple flat deck using the “live edge pour” method, but I wouldn’t try to actually ride it… it’d be a wall-art kinda thing, like this:

esk8 puts major stress on a deck. I’d be wary to ride a deck made this way. However, I’d love to see someone do one for the science of it!

By looking at videos it seems like something reinforcing arround the transparent surface would do the trick, maybe like a wireframe deck or something. :thinking:

Not only co2, also fine particles, which will fall down over thousands of miles around it, creating a layer of deth.

This is also one of the reasons lion batteries suck for the environment, mines with specific metal in them (cannot exactly member) cause a very fine toxic dust falling over the land kms around them.

@Fosterqc, I have thought a transparent enclosure would be kinda cool as well. lexan bends pretty easy using a nichrome wire, but for an enclosure, one would to thermoform that.

yeah my idea there was to make the underdeck side a copy of another popular deck then the clear enclosure would fit on that board as well as the one I make. Given I would be making a mold and running a thermoformer it makes sense.

or you could use a normal enclosure for that deck also. I bet you could get some awesome lighting effects like that.

Good structural epoxy-resin is pretty pricey. This would be an expensive deck.

Don’t forget that to even have remotely any chance to pour this without air bubbles, you would have to put it in quite a large vacuum/pressure chamber.
