ENNOID XLITE & VESC

No staying vertical for USB. I don’t see a good point there. Vertical will works just fine. Horizontal will extend beyond the PCB edges or will take more space. All other connectors are vertical. i don’t like mixing stuff.

Small update: routing finished.
40% reduction in size by doing dual layered components.
Might be able to go up to 150A continuous discharge with 2oz/in thick copper

As a senior PCB designer and IPC certified idiot :joy:: watch out for making enough vias (pretend capacitive coupling and correct your floated areas)
Just a friendly hint, no balls on table

Will try to. Routing finished, but still some small things to do & verify.

Thanks

Thats awesome on the connectors to JST PH. Are they equal current rated? 5A i think those wr-mcp3 are. damn tricky sons of bitches :hammer: those connectors are

2A for JST PH which is more than enough for balancing, most BMS for small packs balance at less than 100mA. Measurements are done at standstill, so smaller cables should not have an effect on the measurement precision.

Ordered today the latest PCBs for the 15S & 18S “Full” version.

The only schematic change are related to the USB C connector & removing the BLE module, so I’m quite confident that this version will be just fine like the previous one. On the other hand, the PCB layout is completely new due to the smaller size, but the design rule tracker is all clear, so it should be fine…

I still have some firmware tweaks to do for the “charge only” version & must do some testing first with the boards I have on the bench. This will come. I know that some people here would prefer me to focus on the “charge only” BMS, but I’m still believing that a “Full” BMS is better overall for battery protection & pack reliability. I must simply find a way to get an ESC accepting the already implemented throttling & soft shutdown functionalities over CAN bus communication. This way, most drawback normally associated to a full BMS should be a thing of the past.

I updated the website this morning to take orders for the upcoming 15S & 18S SS beta boards. Don’t place a order on the website unless you want to help me covering the part cost and to get this project going forward faster. The ones who made a reservation will be contacted once shipment starts.

Shipments forecast is :

  • End of February for the 15S version
  • End of March for the 18S version.

Initial shipments might be delayed a bit if it goes wrong with the latest design or if some accessories are B.O.

Small update:

I updated the website this morning with some 3D .STEP files, dimensions & pinout of the SS board or the ones interested. Also added some other docs info.

Next step is to do a short video to show how the desktop app works with the BMS and also need to create a basic troubleshooting guide.

I received the new PCB set & also been able to order the 160 x 18S IC that were back orders & frankly hard to get. Should have them by next week. I’m still on track for delivering the first units at the end of March.

I’m personally waiting for this one, the charge only. And there are some others too who are waiting for it. We’re building high voltage Onewheel style balancing boards, and so having a smaller charge only BMS is what we’ve all been looking for.

Thank you for all the work you’re doing.

Once the 15S full version will be tested next week, I will order PCB for 18S-FULL & reorder the 15S-FULL with 2oz copper trace for the production version.

The Charge only version are now renamed to “15S-Lite” & “18S-Lite”. PCB will be ordered at the same time next week normally. They should be available one or two weeks later I think.

As requested earlier by some users a user guide is being build and many additional files are being uploaded on the website to get a better idea of the ENNOID-BMS principle of operation:

That looks amazing.

Updated the website with the smaller “SS-LITE” version for pre-ordering:

Also added a few documents at the bottom of the page: Block diagram, Pinout, .step file & dimensions

Final testing starts today

Just ordered the 18s Lite. Thank you so much for your work with this, I can’t wait to see this piece.

Well received. Thank you

Any chance to do a narrow version in the future for making it compatible with the OneWheel XR battery box
?
