Enertion Raptor Tribute

I’ve managed to put maybe 100 miles on my Raptor, and man… I’ve really grown to love this thing.

After my last ride, I broke something (of course I did)… Pretty sure these Mboard hangars are cast, so I guess I can’t complain too much. I limped her home like this for at least a mile or two, as you can see by the chunks… odd part is, it barely felt any different.

Looks like it’s upgrade time! Good hangars are getting hard to find, but luckily for me, @rafaelinmissouri hooked me up with a BN220 hangar (thanks again!!!).

After breaking my daily driver, I’m honestly relieved to be able to keep riding before winter hits. Picked up some Idea motor mounts too — these things are just so f*cking nice. I absolutely love Tom’s work.

I’ve been wanting more torque, so I tossed on some 45T Radium pulleys. They use that 28mm OD bearing and look a little goofy with a standard 8mm ID. Not sure how well they’ll pair with 140kv motors and 16T motor pulleys… might need to play around with different motor pulley sizes.

Man, I really love tinkering…

I also took a lot of your advice from last time and tried these OG Mad 105’s on this board. I’ve gotta admit — it looks sleek. Can’t wait to see if they liven up the deck.

That side profile… whew. I wish younger me could see the things I get to play with now. I feel so damn lucky to have found this hobby.

I’ve often looked at those RKP’s on Mboards and wondered what they’d be like.

Seeing that truck broken like that gives me one less thing to ever consider buying, thanks.

Makes me wonder why the cast evolve trucks hold up so well, I find them not as bad as they’re made out to be.

On the Evolve GT refurbs I was riding for a bit, the baseplate and deck tips were the area I’d see cracks so the dual kingpin setup might distribute stresses less to the hanger & up to there more.

They’re basic, but they get the job done. The downside is the motor mounts having to sit inward toward the deck. To be fair, the trails around me are rough and I tend to ride pretty hard, so these mounts have survived more abuse than they probably should have.

Totally agree on the Evolve trucks, though! I’ve killed a bunch of DIY drivetrain parts so far. When I rode my Evolve on all the same trails, I almost never had those same issues. Evolve’s Supe rCarve 2 trucks were even better…

And yeah, I’m with wpt_board on the deck-tip cracks, otherwise. I kept getting stress cracks creeping out from that spot too.

I take my past comments back.

They do eventually just break. I should have listened to my intuition.

the temptation was too great for Skatan

Dude, what in the world causes a base plate tucked between a deck like that to break!?!?! :open_mouth:

There must be something about the design/setup that flexes there especially - the cracks/bends I saw developing in the used baseplates I had were horizontal across that same spot - I guess intuitively it seems the most leveraged part back there since the hanger is less under and more out front the baseplate in the double kingpins.

I probably have a bunch of spare Evolve truck parts, if you are interested.

Thanks, but the used market is flooded with old evolves. I think I have about three spare sets already.

Also, being in New Zealand, freight usually costs more than the parts in many occasions. This is why I started making my own enclosures after pricing eboosted.

I’m not sure if I come off, and the impact broke the truck, or did the truck break first? I don’t know, I was pushing the thing pretty hard when this happened, probably was about 45kmh deep in a carve on smooth seal and it washed out.

If the truck broke first, it’s likely cracked already from an incident involving a car, where I went over the bonnet and dented the front guard. I think my board got driven over but not too sure about that bit either.
