A bell helmet with a DOT rating costs 3x less than a tsg pass.
There are some suspicious dot rates helmets on Amazon for 60 bucks. Bell is about double that
I would trust the Bell

And I would add to that that pro riders have way more experience crashing so the chance of the crash being just a slideout with no injury is also higher
My alpinestar sm5 helmet goes on sale for 90€ regularly. And that’s a super legit helmet and not even that heavy. So I would say the price argument doesn’t really hold up, especially given that a good half shell is not much cheaper at about 60-70€.
To be honest I didn’t know you could get a dot one that cheap
100 bucks gets you a decent DOT helmet, ECE models can be found for $150 easy. $600 is premium range, at that point you’re paying for lightweighting and a fancy interior.
I think anyone who can buy an esk8 can get a valid helmet too, they should expand the requirements.
Yeah the alpinestar sm5 I’m talking about is ECE22.06. Not sure how much it goes for in the US, but EU side 90€ on sale (300€ msrp)
Yeah for sure. I’m just quoting the figures I see most often on retailers when I sort by low price. So in the US there’s lots of options in the 100-150 price range. But ofc there’s always models cheaper than that if you hunt for them or get sales.
having used and crashed pretty hard in those dodgy $60 amazon DOT helmets, it does save you from TBI and concussions, but thats about it.
it’s more comfortable(?) to crash in a bell helmet that has better pading.
These are all full face helmets of course, not taking chances with half shells.
