Nah I went through all the math, that’s a typo.

Then they add both qualifying times and rank off that, so in this case. Tucker, Jimmy and I were all tied with 13. Jimmy had the fastest combined times then I forget where Tucker and I landed but regardless, good racing and a blast of a weekend.

Had a great time at EE this weekend! Thanks to the whole crew for running a great event, it was a blast. Really hope that I can make it out to New York.

I think we need to chat about helmets and traumatic brain injury.

Based on the reports i have received, people were going really fast. 35+MPH in some cases. Video of the event shows people using helmets with visible damage.

Helmets like the TSG and Predator are not designed for big crashes at higher speeds. Additionally, if your helmet has been through a crash and made contact with the ground, it is done. Helmets are one hit wonders. They are only designed to take one hit. You guys can further discuss what helmets may be best for higher speed racing.

For multi-day events, once you hit your head you should not be racing for the remainder of the weekend. Really bad brain trauma can occur when you sustain a second hit to your head before you have completely recovered from the first.

With increased awareness, racers can advise other racers. Rules can be written by officials to help protect racers and racing in general.

This is very true. If you keep pushing your limits, please use a motorcycle or motocross helmet, ECE 22.06 rated. As some who previously crashed hard both in an EN1078 rated full face helmet (other brand, same rating as tsg pass) and an ECE 22.06 helmet, I know the difference first hand.

The crash in the en1078 helmet happened because my remote potentiometer semi died and sent full throttle randomly. Crashed pretty hard around 22mph hitting my head. Got a concussion, felt dizzy, could barely even ride home afterwards and only remember half of the way home. Then slept until like 4pm the day after and had a slight headache

I crashed the ece22.06 helmet going down real hard when speed wobbling in bindings and heelstraps at 33 mph. I have like a 5-10 seconds cut that I don’t remember, but I didn’t even had a headache after, even though helmet visor and various venting related helmet parts got scattered in like 5-8m radius… I felt so alright afterwards that I immediately just went for a gokarting session.

Edit: corrected ECE 22.05 to 22.06

they’re changing the rules for all future races to require some sort of rating on the helmet, whether that includes ones lesser than DOT/ECE is beyond what i know but it will be in place i think for NYC after Reggies crash on Sunday

Crack From the early days. If this had been a sk8 helmet it would have been lights out. It is not about your speed. Its about what is between your head and the ground when you need it.

We’ve been pushing people away from buying tsg helmets in the Toronto esk8 group. Saying the exact same thing even for street riding. I try and only use my mine for casual rides now.

Ece 22.06 is the new standard (adds additional testing for rotational force protection & more impact points). Most 2024 helmets use it now I believe. Some deals on older 22.05 stuff, but surprisingly lots of decently priced 22.06 options.

The euc guys have some good recommendations since they rock motorcycle helmets as well. Lightweight with wide/tall FOV is what we are after.

Oh yeah sorry mine’s 22.06. misremembered the standard

Some of the Toronto crew and myself looking to head down for the NY races.

I know there was some discussion a while back about rules for stock.

Edit : found it "Both OEM and Aftermarket bushing
type/durometer modifications are allowed. " :grinning:

“Cosmetic or griptape enhancements specific
to board livery (graphics) are permitted.” :grinning::grinning:

Although I noticed this : “Riders that enter the Stock class may not compete in multiple classes.” I assume that means even with different boards, I can’t compete in both stock and mod?

Stock can’t compete with any other class while you can race in both mid and pro.

Predator helmets were phased out of the downhill scene like 5 years ago because they were not safe enough. Idk how they got recently relevant in esk8, seems like meepo bought them ?

I think Meepo is selling them.

Woah, news to me. Guess I need to budget for a new helmet asap.

Predator became more relevant after Esk8 Con, as they were a vendor there. After the event, I noticed they began sponsoring and giving helmets to many people in the Esk8 community. This included well-known riders like Mario and some of the Stooge Race Team members. They also had Esk8 reviewers evaluate their helmets. Some reviewers even claimed that the Predator was a “TSG Pass killer,” which, in my opinion, is definitely not the case. I found the TSG to be sturdier than the Predator; I was able to flex a Predator helmet with just my hands and light pressure. However, I don’t personally know how good Predator helmets are, and I have not heard many positive things about them.
