in theory this is a good idea, however haven’t we seen if products aren’t delivered before (with enertion I think) or are delayed, spamming and harassment happen with this information (direct to the vender bashing)? or would you say mods hold this information and if requested by a forum member they can have it?
This is the opposite idea of an LLC. What a person does for business should not need to follow them home to the dinner table should they choose not to.
@BillGordon doesn’t any sort of official stance on enabling vendors open up possible legal repercussions for you/,the forum as a legal entity?
Are you prepared to accept this risk? Or do you have protection in place?
Good question, because that factor is part and parcel of this discussion. Any implication that we have fully greenlighted a vendor could very well put us in an uncomfortable position down the road.
I’ve stated multiple times it would be sent to Bill or some other designated person for verification.
Good God. If you are going to argue a silly point at least use an example within the realm of possibility.
What a fucking stupid correlation to having someone’s address absolutely absurd
I think any solution would incorporate the idea that the forum reps are offering advice not a defacto warranty against fraud.
Well, its sort of worse than that. It would take lawyers to properly determine if the “forum entity” was responsible for the loss should somebody file suit. Simply the act of hiring an attorney could sink the forum entity financially.
I mean its my door they’d knock on and we barely cover hosting with the patreon.
@longhairedboy
In light of that I think I would write a disclaimer. Or at least check with a lawyer before hand. Seems sketch to me. I would hate to lose this place for such a reason.
Could you please respect the serious tag?
PS: I am in support of pre-orders being hosted on appropriate pre-order platforms that have their own liability systems.
I don’t think they have any place here.
I would stop at nothing to keep this place running, whatever happened.
I know you would.
But at that point it could easily be out of your hands
Mate it’s absurd.
Say you sell a car, your address is literally on the transfer paperwork even if you didn’t meet at home boom there’s your identical correlation except on a more believable scale not some sub $1000 item on a bloody skateboard forum.
But what if someone gets my dna from a package and clones me and then that clone makes a forum account as Derelict_Andrew and says bad things on the internet about me? What then?
Am I doing this right?
Oh that’s right. We’re adults talking about the adult world. So no, that’s not it.
I’m no lawyer however it seems there could easily be a case made against the forum in a civil suit.
-Person A scams a bunch of people in some way
-person A does this through this forum
-without the use of this forum, the scam would’ve been lesser because there is a concentrated “victimpool”
-this forum aided/enabled person A in crime/civil infraction
-this forum owes those victims money due to negligence
Obviously that’s rough but the logic seems pretty valid. Valid enough for civil court. Just some thoughts
I’m done with you mate in this conversation you’re beyond the realm of rational thoughts at this point.
It would be no different than it is now. The only addition would be that vendor has a badge or something that says ID verified.
The badge would also contain the disclaimer that only the ID of the badge holder has been verified, not the validity of business practices or if he’s gonna rub his balls on your stuff, that may incur additional costs… Or something similar.
The idea is that the person is not anonymous and therefore has more skin in the game, there’s somewhere to point lawyers if he absconds with all my money.
Fair enough. I’d just ask a lawyer to be sure. That’s really my only concern. I’m sure you guys have a handle on it. Even though it is a tough position to be in
After a long time of being a part of this forum, and the old one…I only trust what you guys said about vendors (just do not want to wastemoney, or give it to someone who scammed forum members). By the other hand, If I decide to buy something without any review, or from some guy of the forum, it will be my choice and my win or loss…So yes, I appreciate all of you guys effort, and also I accept my own mistakes…
