I’m going to attach truck nuts to my esk8 for carve pdx, to make everyone extra uncomfortable riding around me just watching the scroat scrape across the ground and bounce.
I’m fucking dying over here reading this giggling like a child.

Articulating hitch to counter weird esk8 forces
for good quality alu welding you need a AC/DC tig. standard mig tig and stick can work but will induce oxidization in to the weld pool.
Yeah plan is not alu now. Either steel or I use aluminum with bolted joints.

Friday, after a full day of classes, I decided to be productive. Roommates were throwing a big party for 4/20 and we already had like 8 more people crashing in our attic than usual. I set a goal of doing half of the 48 solder joints. 4 hours later, I finished all of them and had essentially completed all of the electrical stuff that night. I was kinda surprised, and the board was almost completely rideable at that point. Just needed to be cleaned up a bit. I did not even greet the guests lmao
Saturday morning I woke up and chose violence. I completed the board, getting the phase wires placed nicely, all of the EVA foam and grip tape cut and applied, ESC programming, sHFI tuning, the board was done. I decided to immediately take the board to a NYC meetup, where it surprisingly didnt fall apart. It just kinda worked…
Fast forward to today, did 13.5 miles of clean riding, with an efficiency of 33.5wh/mi doing mixed gravel/pavement. Super impressive for a 4wd setup. That’s more efficient than my 2wd.
Next steps:
Clean up wiring
Snip sensors
waterproof the box
Attach tow hitch
Fabricate trailer (this will probably take the better part of the summer)
The board’s a blast. It’s slow, like, considerably slower than my 2wd mountainboard, but it’s so much fun.
For anyone interested, here are the sHFI settings
45 degree v0 HFI
HFI start voltage: 20v
HFI run voltage: 8v
HFI max voltage: 8v
HFI gain: 0.150
Why?
Battery power
50 motor/20 battery amps at 12s per wheel (combined 200 motor/80 battery)
my 2wd mountainboard is 120 motor/50 battery @18s (combined 240 motor/ 100 battery)
More wattage, more phase current, geared for a similar top speed of ~40mph
vesc reported a max of 3600W on the 4wd
It’s reported >7000W on the 2wd
Both the battery and the ESCs suck, so the limits are set conservatively
Skill issue? I’m going with skill issue.
Yeah please go back in time and tell Ilan to choose some half decent escs so I can push them harder after stealing them from the office.
On it.
Thanks Benjamin, I truly value our friendship.
Slow your roll there buddy
I’m putting the same ESC in my build and will be pushing it like I haven’t paid Evan yet
Gimme my money hoe
I’ll pay you once I find out if they could do 80A @ 12s /s
