battery balancing every time?

what do you like better about daly bms? I’ve already ordered five bestech. I thought it was highly recommended on this site. oh well, not worried about it

I’ve had Bestech fail on me and the Daly are more physically robust it seems.

Also a bit smaller in size and just generally a better quality? It apparent as soon as you touch it… that’s sexy small stature… and boy does it throw its responsibility around… just taking care of business. Putting those p-packs in their place… almost makes you want to call it papa…

How does it pack such a punch when it is almost half as tall?

Is there a way to know if your bms fails? Or did you just notice your cells were out of balance

It depends heavily on the failure mode. If one of the balance channels fails in the on-state, for example, then it will drain that p-group completely flat over time. If it fails open-circuit, that p-group will never be bled down at all, so it will end up being higher than all the others (and that will also result in the whole pack not getting balanced or fully charged, because it will cease charging as soon as that one cell group is “full”, and it can’t level things out.

If the input/output fails, it could either fail closed (Battery will always take a charge, whether or not the BMS wants it to - potentially overcharging cells if one group is higher than the others), or open (battery will not charge no matter what).

It’s generally good practice to check your BMS for full functionality before closing everything up for the first time, and then again whenever you’ve got it open for heavy maintenance.

Smart BMS let’s you check the status of you battry thro some think like your phone saves you opening up the battry to check every now and then

I’ve got several different size mean well HLG PSU that I use why not just get a smaller one there better quality than any laptop or li-ion charger if tried

Thay do
40W, 60W, 80W, 120W, 150W, 185W, 240W, 320W, 480W, 600W just need to pick one that’s light enough for you

Was planning to get the HLG-240h-48a…
https://www.meanwell-web.com/en-gb/ac-dc-single-output-led-driver-mix-mode-cv-cc-with-hlg--240h--48a
Because it’s max voltage is 51.2 and my 14s lifepo4 is 51.1… that way I could never overcharge my cells… as long as my bms is working.
But that meanwell model weighs 2.77 pounds which is kind of heavy. Do you know any lighter ones that would go up to 51.1v? It’s kind of hard to research all of meanwell’s models… seems like there is so many to choose from .

shoot i just realized the bms ive ordered doesn’t seem to be a smart bms. Oh well, I don’t even know where to find another company that makes the 14s lifepo4 bms i need

HLG is the range
240 is the wattage
48 is the average voltage
A is the modal that has adjustable voltage and current

185w is a bit smaller and lighter but will charge slower as it will have a lower current

You don’t need a lifepo4 bms if you can manually change the settings that is the only difrence between a lifo and a li-ion bms is the cell voltage, pac voltage, ect. There’s several smart BMS been developed by community members all on the verge of relice

ugh, alright, I think I should bite the bullet and get a smart bms even though I just ordered 5 bms for $140. otherwise I’ll have no easy way to check individual cell voltages and risk killing cells if bms fails, knowing me it will… i always have wiring issues.
Anywho, seems like llt power smart bms (10S 11S 12S 13S 14S 15S 36V 48V 58.8V 60V smart BMS with Bluetooth function UART communication 20A to 60A constant current – LLT POWER ELECTRONIC) has an app with adjustable voltage.
Also Daly smart Bms seems to have adjustable voltage app too.
You have any experience with these apps? Trying to research on this forum but getting caught in the weeds a bit

Hey Ref, have you used the app for that smart Daly bms? It allows you to set cell voltage right? thinking I’ll get a 14s li ion daly for my 14s lifepo4 since Daly is highly reccommended

have you used Daly bms smart app? allows you to change cell voltage?

No, just the regular Daly BMSs

Some smart bms are incorporated in the the VESC canbus system and the metr pro Bluetooth. Depends how mutch comparability your after

just looking for something i can pull up on an App, check voltages and edit voltage max. i think ill get the daly smart bms on Amazon and return it if the app isn’t sufficient. thanks

I have only used basic Daly’s

thanks yeah I’m going to get that one but from eBay because the listing there has pictures of the Bluetooth module. I’ve watched some videos on YouTube of people using their smart app and looks like you can definitely edit Max voltage for each cell

thanks for that suggestion of the hlg 185h 48. it is 1/3 pound lighter but ill stick with the 240h bc its max voltage is 51.2 and that way i could never mess it up
