2023 🏁 Western USA Esk8 Racing

Did you end up racing?

Ya I did, first on Poasts 4wd which ended up being kind of broken, so I did quals on that, then 5 mins before the heat races I switched and used his Mach One lol

It was a mess of a race day for me, wish my board wasn’t down. But shoutout to poast for getting me on the track at all

They bumped registration too tonight.

Looks like they have a non race free ride ticket option if you want to ride the track.

Racing.
In a field of 20 Racers only one will be a winner. 19 of
them will not win the race.
In a field of 20 Racers 19 of them will have a chance
to do better next time, and one of them can only do
worse.
In a field of 20 Racers 20 of them will gain something
that trophies and awards can’t replace…The desire
and motivation to do better than yourself did the last
time, each and every time.
In Racing everyone walks away with something. And
if you don’t…Thats when you have lost.
Lost the race, lost sight, lost direction, lost hope, lost
self-respect and lost determination
Racing teaches much more than mechanical skills,
driving skills, math or organization skills. It teaches
real life lessons that can be used in the real world,
Lessons our kids need to face this world and survive

Spec Racing Board Rules 2025.docx

1 / 5

Spec Board Racing Mission statement. We are dedicated to fostering a community that emphasizes safety, learning, fun, control, and affordability. Our mission is to provide an accessible platform for riders of all skill levels to engage in exciting and competitive electric skateboard racing while prioritizing the well-being of every participant. Through ongoing education, we aim to ensure that riders not only enhance their racing skills but also learn the importance of safety and control in every ride. We believe that Spec electric skateboard racing should be fun and thrilling, without compromising on affordability, and we strive to make this dynamic sport accessible to everyone, regardless of background or experience.

Component Sourcing Statement

All required components for this Spec Class can be sourced directly through Meepo, using the Meepo Go electric skateboard as the baseline reference model. This ensures consistency, availability, and fair competition.

While individual parts may be purchased separately, all key components (ESC, battery, motors, remote, wheels, etc.) must match the specifications and models found on the Meepo Go and must comply with the individual rules outlined in this document.

  1. Wheel rule- Mad 125mm Wheel Integrity

The Mad 125mm wheel is a key component of our electric skateboard racing series, engineered for optimal performance, stability, and safety. As such, it is strictly prohibited to modify, alter, or replace any part of the Mad 125mm wheel, including its core, urethane material, or shape. This rule ensures consistent performance and maintains a level playing field for all competitors.

Any alteration to the wheel’s design, whether for aesthetic or performance purposes, can compromise its integrity, safety, and handling, potentially leading to dangerous riding conditions or unfair advantages. Riders found to have altered or tampered with their Mad 125mm wheels will be subject to penalties, including disqualification, depending on the severity of the modification.

By preserving the original design of the Mad 125mm wheel, we uphold the spirit of fairness, safety, and competitive integrity in every race.

  1. Speed Controller Rule – Meepo JKFOK-24B

The Meepo JKFOK-24B electronic speed controller (ESC) must be used in its original, unmodified form. The ESC must remain sealed within its original enclosure; removal or internal modification of the ESC or its firmware is strictly prohibited.

2 / 5

Modifications to the ESC enclosure (the outer box) are permitted solely for the purpose of safe and secure mounting to the skateboard. These modifications must not affect the internal components or performance of the ESC in any way.

Any ESC found to be tampered with, opened, or internally altered will result in disqualification

  1. Battery Rule – Meepo 12S2P 50.4V (345Wh)

The Meepo 12S2P 50.4V battery (345 watt-hour) must remain completely unaltered and enclosed in its original factory housing. The battery must retain the original manufacturer specification sticker, clearly visible and intact, for verification purposes.

The enclosure may be modified only to allow proper and secure fitment to the skateboard. Any enclosure modification must not compromise the integrity, safety, or original configuration of the battery pack or its components.

Any battery found to be internally altered, repackaged, or missing its original specification sticker will result in immediate disqualification.

  1. Remote Rule – Meepo J6

The Meepo J6 remote must be used in its stock and unaltered form. Internal modifications or hardware alterations are strictly prohibited. Cosmetic damage or wear from use is permitted.

All factory-available settings and modes may be used without restriction.

Any remote found to be internally modified or tampered with will result in disqualification.

  1. Power Wiring Rule – ESC to Battery Connection

The wiring bus connecting the ESC to the battery may be of any gauge or length, at the discretion of the builder. However, the wiring must be:

· Securely fastened to the board to prevent movement or damage during racing

· Properly insulated and protected to ensure safe operation

· Terminated with a connector that plugs directly into an XT60 on both the ESC and the battery

Adapters or custom wiring are allowed only if they meet the above safety requirements and maintain XT60 compatibility at both ends. Unsafe or improperly secured wiring may result in disqualification or required correction before racing.

  1. Motor Rule – Meepo 1500W 5040 Motors

3 / 5

Only Meepo 1500W 5040 motors are permitted. Motors must meet the following specifications:

· Stator size: 4230

· Pole pairs: 7

· Power rating: 1500 watts per motor

· Origin: Must be original Meepo-manufactured motors; no clones, rewinds, or internal modifications allowed

Motors must remain unopened and unmodified internally. Cosmetic wear and external mounting changes are allowed, provided they do not affect performance.

Any motor found to be internally altered, of a non-compliant model, or not manufactured by Meepo will result in disqualification.

  1. Belt Rule – Drive Belt Specification

All boards must use a 260-5M timing belt with a width of 15mm. The belt must be in good condition, free of fraying, missing teeth, cracks, or excessive wear that could compromise safety or performance.

Belts that do not meet the specified size or condition requirements must be replaced prior to racing. Use of non-compliant or damaged belts may result in disqualification or a mandatory repair.

  1. Gearing Rule – Pulley Specifications

All boards must use the following fixed gearing configuration:

· Wheel pulley: 45 teeth

· Motor pulley: 14 teeth

· Belt cog width: 15mm (both pulleys must match this width)

Both pulleys must be properly aligned and securely mounted. Use of alternative tooth counts, different cog widths, or modified pulley designs is strictly prohibited.

Non-compliant gearing will result in disqualification until corrected.

  1. Deck Rule – Construction and Dimensions

Decks may be of any material, construction, length, width, or drop height. There are no restrictions on flex, concave, shape, or mounting style (e.g., top-mount, drop-through, double drop).

Deck modifications for mounting components, wire routing, or rider comfort are permitted, provided they do not compromise safety or structural integrity.

All decks must be free of major cracks, damage, or defects that could pose a safety risk.

4 / 5

Steering Rule – Trucks and Setup

Any steering system or truck type is allowed, including reverse kingpin, traditional kingpin, channel trucks, or other designs. There are no restrictions on:

· Truck width or height

· Bushing type, shape, or durometer

· Pivot cups, washers, or dampers

· Mounting angles or riser configurations

All steering setups must be securely mounted and must pass safety inspection, showing no signs of failure risk (e.g., cracked baseplates, bent axles, or loose components).

Unsafe or unstable steering setups may be disqualified or required to be corrected before racing.

  1. Bearing Rule – Steel-on-Steel Only

All wheel bearings must be steel-on-steel construction — that is, both the balls and races must be made of steel.

Ceramic bearings, hybrid bearings, or any bearings using ceramic components are not allowed.

Bearings must be in good working condition, securely seated in the wheels, and free of excessive wear or damage.

  1. Rider Safety Rule – Required and Recommended Protective Gear

Mandatory Gear (Required to Race):

All riders must wear the following protective gear during practice and racing:

· A full-face helmet with a minimum DOT safety rating (ECE, Snell, or FIM also accepted).

o Skate-style helmets are strictly prohibited.

· A spine protector, either standalone or integrated into a protective suit/jacket

· Knee and elbow protection, using hard-shell or impact-rated pads

· Close-toed shoes in good condition (no sandals or barefoot riding)

All gear must be securely fitted, undamaged, and approved at safety inspection. Riders without required gear will not be allowed on the track.

Recommended Gear (Strongly Encouraged):

For additional safety, the following gear is highly recommended:

5 / 5

· Full-body protective suit (leather or textile with built-in armor)

· Wrist guards or protective gloves with wrist support

· Hip pads or padded shorts

Pretty great to see a race series coming together that gets more people on track. If weather was better we’d be happy to host a race here at I2S AZ.

I have a couple of questions:

  1. If using the provided boards, are we allowed to make minor modifications like swapping bushings? What are the rules/limits around messing with the provided boards?

  2. Do jackets with CE 1 back pads count as “A spine protector” or do we need something more?

@dskate Will let the temps cool a bit first. Was planning on reaching out to I2sAZ and setting up a race day.

@chr1spe

  1. bushing preload might be a start line consideration.

  2. CE 1 back protetion would be adequate for the speeds these boards make in my view. Check with your I2s hosting club as they would have the final say.
