What big benefits do idlers give besides easily tightening the belt? Curious because I purchased one (pic below) for my build but haven’t used it ever.

You can run your belts with less tension it makes it more efficient and puts less stress on motor shaft and bearings

What granny said but also in my case I need small pulleys because 72:15 just isn’t enough to make up for 10" tires. So I need the idlers to get more teeth engaged on the 14t pulleys. Which means less slippage
