[WTB] [US] Need Heavy-Duty Trucks & Mounts for Thane Build

Hey everyone,

I just wrapped up my new Thane daily driver:

  • TomiBoi LiquidSword deck with double stack enclosure
  • Boardnamics 270s on BN adjustable baseplates
  • TorqueBoards 110s
  • 12s5p EVE 40PL (my second battery build)
  • Stormcore 60D+
  • Apex branded Flipsky 6384’s

My first BN hangers felt rock solid, and I got overconfident on the chunky sections of my local trails—kept plowing through bumps without backing off. I ended up cracking a hanger. Picked up another set, and now the BN motor mounts have snapped on me.

I’m honestly a bit lost on why I’m breaking this gear. My old Evolve SuperCarve 2 trucks took way more abuse, I just don’t want to go to DKP on this build.

So… I guess I need to go shopping. Ideally I’d find hangers + motor mounts that play nice with BN adjustable baseplates. I also noticed BN lists 6061; would a stiffer alloy like 7075 be a smarter move for this kind of abuse?

If you’ve got something to sell, please DM me. And if you’ve been down this road and have advice (mount style, brace options, known-tough brands/models), I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

I’ve cracked BN270 hangers riding MAD105s before.
Reached out to Kevin who told me that this is a known issue… 270s were heavily machined around the bushing seat to allow mounting his own gear drives and had less material and less rigidity. He recommended against using BN270s for thanes, so I grabbed a pair of 220s for my thane board (can’t remember from him directly when they were not unobtaniums or from a forum member). 220s (or shorter hangers) have more material around the bushing seat, and per Kevin, suitable for thane use.

220s do sound a lot more logical, and I’d actually love a narrower profile anyway. I just checked and Kevin has some in stock… this might be the way to go. Appreciate the heads-up!

See my previous post for one solution I reached. You just gotta find Caliber II clones, since that is what BN products are modeled after. The baseplates/hangers are interchangeable between makers.
I wanted relatively wide hangers that are BN220 alternatives and found BKBs trucks to be 238 mm wide and dirt cheap, but they don’t sell motor mounts… So I bastardized TB motor mounts on. I’m sure you know, but you need LOOONG motor mounts if you are reverse mounting the motors. TB motor mounts are one of the longest (longer than Kevin’s XL mounts, which for me were a few mm too short). IDEA boards also makes super long mounts that can be clamped on to BN hangers. I found IDEA’s clamp retention mechanism (grub screws) less resistant to being shaken loose compared to BN or TB’s clamps. Once the motor mounts start vibrating, they mar the hangers and you’re in a losing battle to properly fixate the mounts.

Thanks for linking that, I’m going to read through it. I’ve been picking up a lot of stuff from Torqueboards lately with good results, so their mounts could be a solid option too.

Was there anything especially tricky about using the TB motor mounts? I’m also wondering if IDEA might have something in a solid one-piece design that doesn’t rely on the clamp collar.

Just took a closer look at your photos… You are reverse mounting 6384s (just like me). If going narrow with 220s, you will need super long motor mounts for the motor cans to clear the baseplate. The adjustable baseplate has the “nose” that is sticking out, so. As I wrote above, even BN’s XL mount with 100+/-10 mm C-C length wasn’t long enough. I currently have IDEA’s RKP motor mounts in XL length (XL: 113-120mm). Tom will recommend that you get a crossbar too due to the extra length. It gets pricey with shipping, but you don’t have many options last time I checked. I just want to save you the frustration I had to go through. Powerful thane boards with RKP must be a dying breed.

That makes sense about the shorter mounts not working when going narrower.
The super long Idea mounts paired with BN 220s really does sound like the way to go.

If anyone has a setup like this used, let me know—I’m definitely spending way too much already!

Lastly, not helping you save money, but some other options are:

They have still very long hangers, while visually sturdier around the bushing seat. You don’t have to worry about the crazy long motor mounts.

TB 218s are too short to accommodate dual 6384s. They can only take dual 6374s. So I got BKB 238s instead, but that required some elbow grease to work (see my thread).
TB hangers have a slightly taller profile (not exact copy of Caliber II) as they mention on their website. TB motor mounts are made to match their own hangers, not the original Caliber II or BN.

Looks like I have 1 good one of those plates left…

I’ll be happy to Mail it to you for free if it will help.

I have 220s too if you would be interested…

I’m afraid to say that breaking shit means you are doing it right as far as riding and having fun…

Also with a bit of work I think you can get Tito’s @Titoxd1000 plates to fit on the BN clamps.

His plates seems much much beefier than BN.

@rafaelinmissouri hooked me up with a mount to get my board going. I was seriously so bummed, my budget did not agree with a new set of trucks. Now I don’t have to miss my favorite riding season.

Seriously can’t thank you enough, man!
