Why? Why should an open source project need a TM?

Project hijacking for example. Someone grabs the code and identity. Then you have a third party distributing altered code/software under the original identity and look. OS projects need a TM more than closed source software, because they are more vulnerable, since the code is open and visible. They can’t share code and identity at the same time.

This ffs!!
I’m not a costumer @Trampa but fuck me how fast I closed the tab that was displaying your website.

For some reason it seems like this is where most of the confusion comes from.

I’m surprised this hasn’t happened already

I’m sure the ball is already rolling.

Esk8 grows more every year.

And we are glad he had to use his own branding.

It did, and I’m using it one some of my controllers.

The whole VESC tool vs VESC speed controller debacle is somewhat similar to what happened in the arduino community with the arduino trademark dispute.

VESC is a neologism that has evolved to refer to the speed controller itself, regardless of the trademark.
It is fully within the trademark owners right to uphold the trademark, but it is very hard to do so if the acronym protected by the trademark is ambiguous.

The VESC acronym has also been used previously, this is a VESC (Volvo Experimental Safety Car) from 1972

Doesn’t play a role, not even the same category.

Why not? We are all guinea pigs for experimental firmware

That’s why it cost more… Wait, what lol

Can relate.

My helmet EXCEEDS VESC 8, but there’s no VESC 8 yet.

Just out of curiosity to people that know BV and talk to him…
Is he a such of an artist that lives in his world of ESCs and have no clue of Frank actions, Franks opinion in community that he (BV) created his controller for in first place? Or, he is like a little baby that easts every word that Frank give him?
Or maybe… and here goes a controversial opinion… he know everything and he is ok with that? For sure he has done probably the most for esk8 in regards of ESC and he is already an icon but this whole white knight thing with him doesn’t add up for me.
Wouldn’t be easier if he showed up and just said " yeah Frank got my full support I know who he is and his tactics and I’m ok with that". Some how people are always separate them and said " oh yeah I respect Benjamin and so on but totally hate Frank and what he is doing"
It’s super strange for me at this point

I’m sure we’ve been here before when throwing about big numbers but what exactly did “we” spend 30k on?

Is we Trampa or is we BV?

Are you claiming that Trampa payed 30k to help BV register the VESC trademark or that your paying BV 30k to licence the use of his trademark?

Personally, have never seen a trademark registration process that costs 30k. Curious where this numbers come from.

LoL don’t be silly. Haven’t you heard of the expensive private high schools (in the USA) that give away 4.5 and 5.0 GPAs on a scale of 0 - 4? When you want to be better fast, just adjust the scale. Those plebs who work hard in the normal school system are capped at 4. It’s all about the meta.

If you arbitrarily state that 195% is your full effort then you can relax a little bit and still clock a good 140%.

Ohhhhhhhhhh this makes perfect sense! Sorry, I wasn’t aware that Frank and his band of merry men operate with a cap of 800%. That leaves his 140% at an actual reality of 11.2% if my calculations are correct.
