Wanted to share my latest build.
Took me a while to collect the components, but finally
The deck is Fishbone (Flowstate/Mboards)
The main challenge was to build a thin single stack battery enclosure. The enclosure that came with it (eBoosted) was double stack, which was too thick for my low profile needs.
So, I designed a new one and printed it. That was the real fun
Really good looking build!* I’d be really curious to hear more about your process for designing and building this enclosure. What material did you print it out of? How’d you put it all together? Did you model any kind of interface between the pieces, or just flat planes that you glued together? How’s it holding up so far? I’m planning a printed enclosure for an in-process build so I’m always interested to learn from other people’s experiences.
*With one notable exception that handle has gotta go! Looks like you’ve definitely got the skills to design and make something nicer in form and function
Whatttt ?!?! for real ? To be honest - in my head the handle looks like a little spoiler/wing style of racing cars, this is were I went in the design and looks, but, probably it remains totally in my head Really ? it’s that not related ? (it’s totally fine, be brutal and honest with me:)
Regarding the enclosure - the process took me a while but was very fun. I basically reversed engineered the existing enclosure but with my modifications. Eventually it is was separated into 5 segments, holding on together using bolts and nuts (3 between each segment). I did model connections between them, you can see in the 3d design on top. First I used PETG-CF but soon realized it’s not elastic enough for stress the enclosure is under… so I made it out of PA6-CF , which seems to be holding up much better ! However, this is quite new, so I don’t have a long usage report to tell ya how it holds under real stress over time. But I think (and hope) it will be ok. These are not just “flat” parts, they are all curved and was a real challenge to print them all.
Yeah, personally I think the handle looks out of place on this build. Everything else about the build looks sleek and well thought out, but that handle really sticks out.
That’s just my opinion though if you like how it looks/works, then that’s all that matters. The beauty of DIY is that everyone gets to build exactly what they want!
I can design it in 10 other ways I know. But probably only me see this as a nice little spoiler/wing on the back like a racing car ?!? it’s probably only me I don’t know, I like it I guess ….
It’s bummer that others don’t see it though
