I gave them a chance to provide a rating first but that is good to know. I’m curious what they will say. This machine was calibrated 2 weeks ago and I tested on our backup machine as well.

Could you thread screws into the holes before putting them in the oven and leave them in while baking to maybe alleviate shrinkage of the holes? No idea if that would work, just spitballing.

Could I send you one of my M300 gears to test just to see if yours is a one-off? Only if it doesn’t cost you anything to perform the test.

Yeah absolutely. If it has a rough slm finish I will need to stone it down flat to get an accurate reading but nothing that would affect function

I hope this isn’t the case for me. I ordered spurs from shenzen that should be arriving in the next week. I won’t have any way to test hardness tho.

I opted for no hardening on these because I want to make sure tolerances fit before I spend the extra $90 for hardening. I’ll test to see if they wear down excessively and if they do will order another set with the hardening included.
These are for a medium power board so maybe that will help them last longer.

Isn’t +90 for hardening very expensive? You can get cnc gear with hardening for less than a slm gear with hardening

They quoted me at $75 to harden four truck clamps and four driven gears. Wondering if it’s inconvenient for them to harden fewer parts so you pay more? That or their pricing is just inconsistent.

$45 per spur for additional hardening, does seem excessive. I contacted Konlida which I believe is cnc. I know others have used them from this forum and was quoted $160 per spur for the smaller quantities I’m looking for. Price drops to $100 per spur for quantity of 10 but that’s not realistic for my project. (Tito used Konlida and the quality is very impressive).That was 42 crmo quenching and blackening. I think I saw someone have spurs made from sendcutsend and they were showing wear so don’t want to go that route.

SLM still has advantages though if you want to optimize and not just take the easy route of using a basic gear generator.
Regarding hardness, 26HRC might be ok for a wheel spur already. Untreated lasercut 4130 is supposed to be ~18-22HRC and they last over an year on the raceboard for me.

Just received my first SLM gears. Very impressed by print quality! Unfortunately I ordered the adapter part from another vendor that experienced the part breaking when tapping and had to reprint it. So waiting on that part to arrive to test these out!
