Should I go 2WD or 4WD? (Torqueboard Gear drive)

Hey guys. The Aspie Sk8R here.

Dexter is coming out with the gear drive in a few months, and I was wondering if 2 or 4 would be more beneficial?

I use my board as a commuter 2.4 miles back and forth to work.

From a power , Cost, and efficiency standpoint.

I’m going to incorporate his new VESC and 40" Drop Deck, with the up and coming 12S4P. Motors are 6380s by TB.

Alot of unknowns but I thought I’d get your opinions.

I think you’re gonna have 4X the torque you need with a 4WD on just a commuter board unless you live in SF

Dual 6380 is more than enough unless you’re racing or climbing lots of steep hills.

You could try 4WD for a few months and send me one of the drivetrains if you think it has more power than you actually need and want to go 2WD.

@torqueboards Dexter what’s your opinion?

It would be pretty heavy and overkill :sob: If you’re doing that…You’d want like a 12s8p, 12s12p battery with an insane BMS. Although, there might actually be room in the 40" Drop Deck for a 4WD.

For commuting a 2wd with 12s4p is more than enough typically.

Thanks Dexter!!

Unless you’re like @Kellag and you want to ride 45mph. :+1:

One of those is more than enough on my commuters. Four of them is just ridiculous.

One 6380 is fine, two 6355s are fine, two 6374 are overkill. Four of anything but 5055 is overkill for a commuter board, and even that is overkill because of the extra electronics, mounts, gears, et cetera.

80100 is the new thing!

Eight 80100 or you ain’t skating. Two on each wheel.

12s4p will be way under powered for a 4wd!

And 4wd is also highly inefficient from a wh/km poi t of view

For the gear drive, will I need new mounting gear? Or will you sell it with mounting parts?

Just wondering what I need to buy to make the drive train complete and what the price would be?

What do you mean by mounting gear? The gear drive setup will include everything.

Don’t know yet. We’ll have the CNC Samples soon and will know more about that time.

@torqueboards Oh ok so no ball park price yet .

I saw the Gear Drive was 649$ so I didn’t know how much cheaper it would be than that

I don’t really no atm. Should be competitive to what the current prices are now  :+1:

2 6374s are not overkill for riding 30+mph on a 12s build where the excess heat becomes apparent with smaller motors (I live in hawaii so it is hot all the time)

Well the Moonular Drive is 250$.
