One destroyed tire later

Learn from my mistake, pay attention to the tire pressure recommendations on the tire

Yesterday I was super excited to get out for my first esk8 in >60f weather. The trail was mostly empty, the battery charged, remote attached, and as soon as I started out of the parking lot I was rattled by a constant thumping - once each revolution - in the front right tire. I couldn’t see anything wrong but clearly I’d broken a ply and there was a bubble in the tread.

A large number of hard carves later I’d calmed it back down and the rest of the ride was wonderful, but I did order a replacement.

But I have also noticed that in comparison to the Hoyt tires the Nova’s aren’t really that round. The ride is generally more jiggly. So I might just put all the tires on the lathe and sand them to round. I’m interested in seeing if I’m right and by how far they are off.

My general strategy for inflating is, because I have a screw-on Schrader pump, is to go up to the max psi of the pump (60) and then during the process of unscrewing the connection I would lose enough air to get me back down to 30 since the tire volume is so small.

Clearly that’s not a good strategy.

Also, I angered the gods of english. My original title was

ThumpThumpThumpThumpThumpThumpThumpThumpThump

I fail to see how that’s unclear

For the Novas I’d try running them at 35-40PSI.
