Need some advice with my first at/street build

I’m new to Esk8 and new to the forum. I live in the United States in Southern California, near Disneyland. So, close to the beaches, mountains and desert. Nice skate weather practically year round here. I’ve ridden skateboards on and off since I was a kid and wanted to get back into it. I picked up a longboard to tool around on and eventually went electric and picked up a Wowgo 2s for around $400 to get my feet wet. Almost fractured my arm the first day :astonished:. I was trying to get the hang of carving and over corrected, landing onto my outstretched hand. However, I could’t wait to get back on the board, and I am now ready to build my own board with better specs and performance.

Parts I’m currently considering:

Deck: L 40.9" x W 9.61"
Wheelbase: Between 23.5" and up to 25.75" depending on which holes you mount the trucks.

Trucks, mounts, motors and belt system:

VESC/ESC:

Still contemplating between the following and would gladly take advice:

VESC 6 plus x2 with trampa wand?

Flipsky Dual FSESC 6.6 with VX1 or VX2 remote?

Unity with Enertion nano remote?

Batttery:

10s4p or 12s4p battery pack built by (Need suggestions where to get the battery)

Enclosure:

The enclosure I’m not sure yet. I was thinking of something from psychotiller might work for this set up. Again, advice welcomed.

So, my questions at this point are: Do you think this deck will work clearance wise with the Haggy drive system?

I hear so much debate about VESC/ESC and often wonder why more people just don’t go with the OG VESC from Vedder if everything is based on it anyway. But opinions welcome.

Should I go with the 10s4p or 12s4p and would either work on this deck, meaning is there enough room for the 12s4p if I wanted to go that route?

Look forward to getting some feedback and start purchasing parts and documenting this build.

It’s difficult to tell you to buy a unity, that would work good though.

Depending on how many amps you want to run a cheaper 50A * 2 Dual ESC could also serve your needs. But I recommend High end for off road.

That being said, what do you think about going with two VESC 6 plus? I know they are more expensive, but would the quality of that particular VESC outweigh the cost in the long run, you think?

9.11/10 yeah go for those

Stick with 10s4p since your a beginner to esk8, 12s has a kick

Wait for @torqueboards 6.xx speed controller, you’ll never recieve your unity if you order directly from enertion

The haggy kit seems to get wheelbite with the rayme deck, if you where to stay with that deck, get some urethane wheels.

If I was in your position, I would get some Tb 110mm, or wait for the not yet released abec 111’s.

Looking at using pneumatics on a new build assuming you mean all terrain by “at” what kind of wheels/tires are you thinking trying to decide on a deck here but worried about wheel bite.

Personally using 4.x hardware from torque boards /diy but if you can wait for updates probably worth it to not worry about breaking things

Oh yeah waiting for the Torqueboards ESC too. If you are planning your build now that is a great choice.

You don’t have to match esc vendors with their respective remotes. Customizability and the ability to mix and match is the beauty of DIY. I’d also like to steer you away from the Enertion NanoX remote. Its bad.

You may have some wheel bite issues with that deck, its still quite wide where the trucks are to be mounted. I’d run through eboosted/bigben’s enclosures, and pick a deck that goes along with it, they fit like a glove.

There are some great batt builders on the forum here, @M.Hboards for example. 12s for some more kick to the build. My personal choice.

It comes with both AT and urethane wheels, I’m just worried about wheel bite with the AT for the most part. Any fix for that? Maybe risers or ?

Yeah I’m using risers (on current setup) and getting 218mm trucks to push the wheels out (for pneumatic setup) but still thinking drop through style is best bet

Nothing will help with wheelbite with the AT wheels, that deck is tricky to play with. Why not grab a jet killshot deck? Even with risers, it’s a long shot, want 4 inches in risers lol

I’m open to whatever looks sick and will work, so I will definitely check out the killshot decks

What are peoples thoughts on the Hi5ber decks??? Maybe the Jalapeno or the Habanero? I little pricey, but hey if it’s quality, I’m willing to spend the money.

I’mma plug my man @torqueboards it seems like a lot of his upcoming shit is gonna work for you

I’ve been using a verreal f1 deck, by far my favorite esk8 deck. Perfect amount of flex, and has some nice angles like the landyachtz evo

@Kellag really now? I though u was gonna plug Amazon.com :rofl::sob:

I can wait a bit and ride my Wowgo for the time being. I really want to plan a good build before spending the inevitable up to $2000 I will probably end up dropping into this thing. What is the timeline looking like on the torqueboards ESC?

Whenever dex sends them out to me to be tested vigorously
