My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

It’s like selling your soul to the devil.

The dude in Europe is winning races now with one he butchered…but at what cost!!!

Could you show us how much flex ether of these boards have. Im trying to decide if i should make a segmented enclosure for my board or a simple one peace like the ones you have on both of these.

Always enjoy reading your posts! Can you help me really quick? What size Braided Sleeving did you use to protect the motor cables? Have to order some.

I have used a lot of sizes. I believe this stuff is 1/2 inch.

The Demonseed and the Hummie are relatively stiff I would say.

The Demonseed has a little bit of Flex.
But I think it comes more from the necks.

The Hummie is very stiff all together…
Part of why I wanted padded grip tape.

The battery has to be made to take regular esk8 abuse, so must be somewhat flexible.
But the enclosure itself can be one solid piece I think.

Epic Family Ride

Last night they had a kids concert thing at the park near our house.

So we rode there as a family.

This is definitely one of my favorite things to do!!!

Luca rode his Onewheel, I rode the GT
Naia rode her bike and Max rode on the back with mom.

The playground was packed…

Luca and I just rolled around the grass and that was a vibe.

The icing on the cake was stopping to eat mulberries on the way home!!!

It’s wild to think about how much nicer and cooler it was to ride there, instead of jumping in the minivan…

It was just at 5 miles. And there is a trail connector so we can get to the park mostly staying off roads.

Most epic!!!

A midsummer night ride

Later in the evening I finished putting the 8 inch CST on the new set up.

I have an exciting name for this board.

The 44 Ultra

Totally makes me happy!!!

Getting on it and trying to understand the trigger and how it turned was a real mind fuck!!!

A bit later I set out to cruise around the neighborhood.

This board is a big giant boat!!!
But in the best way imaginable.
It is quite enjoyable.

In fact I decided to leave the neighborhood and cruise campus.

Ended up downtown.
I could not set my beer on the Red Ember for a beers on boards pic…
This is the best I could do.

I need to get out on more night rides like this.

It’s the best vibe with campus and most streets being empty.

I rode 11 miles and I was ok without grip tape.
We will see what happens there.

First longer ride with the W concave felt good actually, so that is a plus.

That would 100% qualify for beers on boards. Looks like a fun evening!

Upgrading Luca’s Bike

So Luca’s bike has been awesome.
It was the first thing he got comfortable riding.

They totally loves it, and can handle it quite well.

The motor was not a very good for the setup though.
The sensors did not work.
So it basically had no torque.

So decided to get a new motor.

All I could get out of the old motor is that it was 36kv and 250w…

So I got this guy off eBay…

Immediately I realized I wish it had done more research.
This thing is huge.

I really wish it has some gotten something closer to this original size.

This bad boy adds 8lbs to the bike…

Anyways.
I’m hasty, and impatient, and I had a hard time finding good variations of motors to consider…

So here we are with a monster.
But we shall proceed.
Because I am hasty and I’m not going to wait to get something different…

Provided it fits the frame.

Which it does… So we can go on.
I started by cutting off the connectors and ruining my warranty and chances are saying the motor back… Commitment

Look Ma’ we are sensored now.

Then I proceed to put the little box together and call it good.

This cool moth was hanging out.

First impressions were good.
Sensors are a good thing to have…

I ruined the brakes… To be continued…
And the motors needed better tuning…

But immediate it was an upgrade in torque and control.

Yesterday morning we set off to ride our newly upgraded toys!!!

There is not much cooler in this life than this…

Remember my insanely high consumption riding with the EUC kids?!?
This is the reverse side of the spectrum.
Slowing down for Luca…

Yikes…
I left the GT out all night…

Glad there were no storms.
Glad no one grabbed it…

Yikes…

I had to go to the dentist today.

It is about 5 miles away.

I made it a 17 mile ride…

The 44 Ultra was the weapon of choice.

It was a fun ride over there for sure!

There is nothing compact about this thing…
It’s giant…
I should slap 9 inch tires on here sometime for fun.

I did come to terms of the fact that I need to add grip tape…

I had a couple of good slips.

False Alarm

At the beautiful hour of 4 am this morning our alarm starts going…

I am bad at sleeping, but I must have actually been asleep then…

It took me a long time to get up and figure out what was happening.

But the siren in the living room is screaming, and my wifes phone is ringing…

I walked around the house to see if something was on fire…

It was not until after I walked around that I realized to look at my phone to see exactly what the alarm was…

It was one of the three Wi-Fi connected fire alarms I have in the garage…

I suppose I’m happy it was a false alarm as opposed to the real deal…

Ring calls when there is an alarm.
I missed the call. So after they call my wife.

She did answer it to tell him it was a false alarm.

However by then the fire department had already been dispatched.

They were at the house at 4:07

Great response time!!!

So there was not even a hint of smoke and the alarms went off??? Do you think the alarms are faulty?

I’ve had mine go off because spiders started making a nest inside them and tripped the sensors

Hard to say.

I think there are many things that can trigger a false alarm.

Bugs like @AlexB mentioned.

Dust…

Fumes…

I am really not sure. If it gives me more false alarms I will take it out.

I have done that twice over the years.
