Makerx Dv4s Blown Mosfet

Mosfet Replacement. Test open on negative terminal.

“Basic” (few) steps to fix?ere to source part?

Source the part, apply heat with soldering iron to the pins, use a solder sucker to get the solder off. You may need to just lay the soldering tip across multiple pins at the same time to get it out.

For replacement, clean the remaining solder from the joints. Then apply a little flux over the joints, tin the joints with a little solder, (assuming the part does not already have per-tinned pins). Place part using tweezers to hold on place, apply heat from the soldering iron across pins to make the joints.

Since there is a heatsink on one end there, you might want to start on that side and try to remove the heatsink end part because it’ll soak up a lot of heat before the solder lets go. You want to try and avoid heating the heatsink if you can, as it will just make this harder.

Thank you for the tips! Im thinking I can do this. Much more confident with a bit of instruction and hopefully I can nail it on the first go, but it’s worth a try even for practice.

Yes, consider it practice.

If you know a local electronics show they could do this very cheaply. Even contract manufacturers have the equipment +skills + people to do this , and there may be some nearby if you get hung up!

Here’s one I have used before for some (advanced) PCB rework : http://www.pcmi-usa.com/

In a pinch, you could probably contact them and mail the board + part for the repair.

I fried a couple MakerX DV4s and I contacted MakerX via WhatsApp and I shipped them back to China via USPS and he fixed them for free. If i remember correctly, the guy to talk to at MakerX is David. This might be an option. Hope this helps.
