Ahah OK
What I mean is, less time spent on building means more money in your pocket

Yeah building in batches definitely saves time

its also psychologically completely different.

Taking a commission means taking money up front so you can buy the parts specific for thier board based on what they say they want, or more typically, what you interpret they probably want based on how they describe they ride and their budget.

This is a fucking nightmare. The ebb and flow of parts availability makes it difficult to keep up, the fact that a lot of people don’t really know what they want and change thier mind after they’ve paid up makes it complicated, the wait time for parts after they’ve already paid can add up to months, some of these people order parts themselves from preorder sites that never show up then we have to have the discussion regarding altternatives but they’ve already paid and well shit, by the time the board is built and shipped the money is gone (bills, supplies, etc), and it doesn’t allow you to buy all the parts at once and build at once. Everything ends up staggered, you end up with a mess of a store room of half built shit that’s all waiting on something and there’s no room to work on the shit that isn’t waiting on everything. Nevermind that the giant cluster fuck this generates makes you want to lay down and die.

I started ordering parts for these boards back in November. It has taken my up to now to have them almost done. That’s because I had to take a commission for each and every part. One for motors, one for drives, one for the last five sets of oil slick matrix IIs in the world, one for cells, one for ESCs, etc.

but now… once these sell… i can order parts for the next batch all in one day and only worry about getting what’s available now and no waiting on shit. I can go from seven or eight months of waiting on shit to less than a month of waiting on shit and crank out a small batch about every 5 to 6 weeks if i wanted.

Werd.

I JUST started doing custom builds. 5 in, and man is it a lot.

Still better than the old job though.

And i didn’t even mention the sidework which adds more cluster to the fuck. I’m so done. We have at minimum a half dozen or more fully qualified battery artists on this forum now. I don’t have to build them a-la-cart anymore. There are also plenty of people here to “finish getting my DIY running” and lots more people to keep dave’s boards from starting housefires.

but to keep with tradition, I’m going to keep doing the evolve battery mods. I think I’m at 120 now and they’re so streamlined they hardly take up any resources compared to the other stuff.

just one small aspect:

going from 20 deeply theoretical long form email conversations involving research and discussion regarding riding style and longevity of parts and thane range vs pneumatics range and how to split differences in cost between the two and blah blah theoretical blah blah to…

20 emails that are all “so where can i get replacement tires”.

I’d love to see you do a batch of downhill thane boards. Ben just made molds for the zenit marbles. Just a thought for a future batch o boards.

i’m definitely doing a batch of sweet ass 100mm thane on belts soon. 12s4p moli pack. I consistently get 27 miles out of mine keeping it around 20 with bursts up to 27-30 so i know its a solid combo for the decent streets and paved trails.

Lmao I just copped a pair of lhb branded motors cuz the deal was good. Not sure what imma use em for yet. Maybe I’ll make a “the other long haired boy” build. XD

open caged 6355 or the sealed 6374? Either one will treat you well.

They’ve been sitting on Nulls shelf, and I like to throw low balls at people in the middle of the night, so I grabbed em up for 70 bucks shipping and all x)

damn that’s a good find.

Fer sure. Im debating between 80 bucks for an evolve full back truck setup, or 50 for a channel setup plus motor mounts to put it on.

Shop past 1am to find the deals.

I hate the yellow wheels.

That is the only complaint I could think of. My neighbor wants me to make his kids two boards, another dude in my neighborhood wants one, so does a co worker, and another old friend, so the whole batch route seems more practical. Theyre all like “how much for a board?” And im like “its really complicated, what do you want and whats your budget?” But maybe I should just slap together a stack of em, charge a grand each, and ask em what color they want instead.

Edit: PLEASE SOAK THOSE FUCKERS IN BLUE RIT THEYRE JUST BEGGING TO BE GREEN
