Plan to have @longhairedboy instal another Davega X and perhaps a Hoyt Street Puck for me This guy is something else with details, on some OCD shit.

@longhairedboy you are the man!
You take time to properly wrap, box and ship your work.

Kuddos to your attention to detail

i made magnetic leads for prebalancing my packs.

just FYI these are 10mm x 2mm N50 magnets, and that’s 10 x 0.15 nickel wrapped around them. Strong af begins to describe them.

So Damon. Question. I’m attempting my first battery pack on the junk drawer board. From the looks of it you’re building the p cells and then balancing correct? What voltage are you bringing them to 4.2?

nope. Just making sure they’re all at 3.8v after welding. I do that because cell voltages are supposed to be around 3.7 but you never know how close they are, then you weld them together and they balance internally, which leads to the pgroups over all being kind of all over the place. So i take them all to 3.8 just to get the pack balanced before i finish building it out. I don’t ship the boards fully charged, i ship them at storage level. Its better for the packs.

Yea that’s what I was wondering because mine took a good while to charge

You’re using a 2.5 amp charger (iirc) on a 10S4P 30Q. That’s a few hours.

Yup. It most certainly is. What kind of balance charger is that that you’re balancing the p cells with? Is it made for that or did you Hotwire something?

its an EV-PEAK dual 6S lipo/liion charger. I made a jig that has the capability to let you slip 18650 pgroups directly into it, I then atttached leads that let me charge any sized pgroup or cell, but it didn’t do that without soldering until today. Its effectively charging two 6S packs when you use it to do 12 pgroups. Or 6S and 4S when i do evolves or other 10S packs.

Interesting. That’s similar to what I use for my trampa. (Burns the house down)

What kind of differences are there in a freshly build pack that need this kind of balancing setup? I am finally looking into adding active balance assist into my charge only BMS design and I am curious whether that would help in this kind of area as well :relaxed:.

I use active balancing on my big blue board with one of those smart BMSs. I’m going to start using those, just waiting for them to get here.

Any interesting builds on the horizon?

a small flock of gear drive flux builds after i get some cash from the usual commissions. A few subsonics, a budget double kingpin bustin sportster, and a bunch of assembly work for bioboards.

Full tuck on the Nightbloomer. Speed record on that board.

That was on the verge of terrifying :sweat_smile:
