First time builder, will it work

Hey guys,

I have ridden a ton of pre-built and I’m looking to take it to the next notch with DIY. Instead of going for a traditional board, I will build a lightweight cheap mountain board for the parks and pump tracks.

The system will be based on an MBS colt 90
For trucks, I’m thinking MBS ATS.12

I’m staying light on the battery using a 10s3p

I’m a little stuck on esc but the Focbox Tenka might be a good option

Pelican 1150 Protector Case for the battery and esc enclosure

flipsky 6368 190KV motors

Mbs Pullys and wheels

v1x remote

I can’t find any good motor mounts:(

Totals out to around 1200, so looking to cut down even further.

How can I lower this? I’m looking for around a 1000-1100 build cost with all new parts

Thanks, guys:)

I’m not a MTB specialist but I think a 10s3p with tires will not be enough especially if you want to go off-road and jump
You’ll need a bigger battery with powerful cells and say bye bye to your 1000$ limit I’m afraid

motor mounts dont exist for these because they pretty much suck for esk8. Aliexpress has some chinesium channel trucks with motor mounts, pulleys, and wheels. Theyre cheap and they suck but they’ll get you off the ground

maybe something like this? I know flipsky escs arent great but I actually haven’t had bad experiences with them, mine have all been problems free but there are tons out there with the exact opposite story. With what I linked you would need a battery, enclosure, and a deck to complete it. The best advice I can give you is that If you are on a budget buy used, you will save a ton of money.

Anytime they’re mentioned, I’ve gotta throw in my experience.

They ride great but are cast metal which isn’t ideal for harder riding. I consider them a junior truck.

Spend the money and get some matrix 2s. There’s about to be a bunch for sale as a lot of people are about to start getting the matrix 3s. I suspect if you time it right, you can snatch up a good deal on a whole drivetrain.

Idea makes them

+1 to @Venom121212 - you can probably pick up a used drivetrain on MBS Matrix II trucks soon, as people want to upgrade to Matrix III’s

i will look in my dusty horde box tonight ,if i get home from work before its time to fall in bed,i might have stuff ill give away on par with some of the stuff you mentioned, granted i dont reccomend them, but at least IF i have it AND you want some stop gap crap, i wont admit to having given you, it will be for the cost of shipping . no promises, ill have to battle the dust bunnys and spiders . ill see what i can dig up on the condition you replace the crap and bin it ASAP

I’ve actually got that Flipsky drivetrain that I’m replacing on a board that I’ll sell you super cheap. In addition to the trucks and mounts, I have 2 6374 FS motors as well. They’re not the good battle hardened version that are now popular but they’re full functional and in pretty good shape. I’ll let it al go for next to nothing. If ur into it, DM me.

Tbh tho, I’d adjust your budget. You won’t be happy with your board if you don’t select some quality components in at least a few places. Def stay away from Tenka at all costs- they’re hot garbage. Imo, you need: a) a bigger, more powerful battery b) a quality speed controller c) a reliable remote.

Peruse the sales threads every day and look for used parts as well as this will stretch your already modest budget further.

I’ve got some matrix iis and mounts lying around not being put to use, shoot me a DM.

I also have a DW II deck as well

Does anyone want DW II’s anymore? I have one too but its cut in the tail. Not the biggest fan for MTB but its great for a carver imo.

what would you recommend for a battery, I’m looking to stay pretty light and small

I like the look of the flipsky motor+wheels kit, good way to save some money.

I know its going to be far lower quality but it cuts down my total by a few hundred bucks

I love mine for off and on road!
