DIY Onewheel, based on Nitrox XL 10"

Hi everyone,

I’m planning a DIY Onewheel/Hoverwheel build and I’m currently looking at using a Nitrox XL hoverboard as the donor.

Has anyone here used a Nitrox XL for a similar build?

I’m especially interested in:

  • How suitable are the Nitrox XL motors and original electronics for this?

  • What wheel/tyre solutions have people used when converting hoverboard motors to a single wide wheel? Especially the 10” nitrox wheels.

  • If using a go-kart/Onewheel-style tyre, how did you make the hub/rim and secure the tyre?

  • Are there any known issues with using the two original motors together in one wheel?

  • Does anyone have build drawings, measurements, CAD/STEP/STL files or photos from a similar build?

I’m considering aluminium rails and 3D printed parts for the hub and electronics compartments, but I’d really like to see how others have solved the wheel and motor mounting before I start designing everything from scratch.

Any advice or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I’m sure SOMEONE here has probably used a Nitrox XL, but that seems like a pretty personal question :grin:

Sorry all. Its called Nitrox XL, but adding a 10” in the search might help to see the actual hoverboard.

I’ve heard the 10” Nitrox XL is actually too big and most people prefer the 4” Venom XM (extra medium)
