Buying an aftermarket charger for my Ownboard Zeus Pro

Hey all, so about a year ago I bought a new charger for my Zeus Pro from Ownboard. A slick GAN charger, newer gen and smaller than the original.

About a week ago, it seems to have stopped working. The green light just flashes quickly when I plug it in. It doesn’t seem to be providing any juice.

Three questions:

  1. Any hope of resolving this issue?

  2. Is it possible to buy a different charger for it? I’m a bit annoyed I spent more than US$130 from Ownboard for a charger that lasted only a year. If I get a charger that’s also 54.6V/5A and the same plug size (and also made for 13S which I’m pretty sure mine is), it should work, right?

  3. If it does charge it, does anyone know if it will quit charging automatically? Is the function that causes it to automatically shut off in the charger or the BMS? Or do both work together, and I need to buy another one from Ownboard to ensure it works properly? All things being equal, I’d prefer not to burn my house down.

I’ve been eskating for a few years but still fairly clueless about how they really work. Thank you so much

Thanks all!

  1. Did you plug in the charger when your board was close to fully charge or not? Double check the manual to make sure if the charger is broken or not.

  2. Yes, any charger will work as long as the voltage and charge plug is correct.

  3. Depends on charger. I think the BMS is the one doing most of the work in this case. Contact Ownboard support, 1 year sounds like you’re still within warranty.

A lot of chargers are just power supplies with a red light which turns green when amperage tapers to below a certain threshold at the target voltage.

Many will not shut off their output, and just hold the battery at target voltage for as long as it is plugged in, or until one parallel group reached 4.25v, when the BMS should disconnect.

I recommend watching an inline wattmeter on charger output, as red light/green light insults my inner nerd.
